EastEnders star Tameka Empson was the second celeb to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing 2016 on Sunday night.
And while the public vote put her in the bottom two, some fans were left fuming with the result, especially after it was revealed the actress performed the final dance off, opposite Laura Whitmore, with an injury.
Tameka told Tess Daly she wouldn't let her back injury stop her before heading to the floor, only to lose the judges' vote before doing a final defiant lap with her knee brace on show.

Her second performance of her Tango to The Heat Is On from the movie Beverley Hills Cop failed to win over the judges though, with only Darcey voting to keep the actress and her pro partner Gorka Marquez in.
As Tameka took to the floor with Gorka for their farewell dance, she broke out of hold to do a solo lap, lifting up her black dress to reveal strapping on her leg.

Strictly in 'racism row' after Tameka Empson unexpectedly becomes second celeb booted off show

The EastEnders star’s exit – which left her “gutted” - comes just seven days after DJ Melvin Odoom controversially left after receiving the least viewer votes against injured fellow contestant Anastacia

Strictly Come Dancing found itself in the middle of a ' racism row' after Tameka Empson was ejected from the show unexpectedly.

The EastEnders star’s exit – which left her “gutted” - comes just seven days after DJ Melvin Odoom controversially left after receiving the least viewer votes against injured fellow contestant Anastacia .

Now Empson, 39, will depart the show after scoring a credible 28 points for her dramatic Beverly Hills Cop-themed tango, which Darcey had described as “great”.

She found herself in the dance-off against TV presenter Laura Whitmore , 31, who scored 30 points for her Moulin Rogue-inspired salsa.

Both women found themselves mid-placed on the leaderboard with FIVE dancers beneath them – Anastacia Kirkwood, Lesley Joseph and Robert Rinder scored 27, Naga Munchetty got 25 and Ed Balls was bottom with 24.

Judge Craig Revel Horwood looked horrified at having to choose between the two women following their dance off. He said: “This is, I have to say, a little bit of a nightmare.

"I don’t feel like I have been in this position before. To be honest I can normally make a very clear decision but both couples were extraordinary.”

Head judge Len Goodman agreed that “neither should be in the dance off” and Bruno Tonioli agreed, declaring: “Let me say these girls are fantastic, you two shouldn’t even be here.”

Darcey Bussell opted to save Empson over Whitmore, saying she’d shown “stronger focus and intent”.

But the other three plumped for the Irish ITV2 host and her partner Giovanni Pernice. Len explained: “I’ve got to go with the couple that I felt did the more polished performance and that’s Laura and Giovanni.”

Mum-of-one Tameka, whose partner is new recruit Gorka Marquez, admitted she was hugely disappointed.
It feels gutting because I have so much more to give. It’s the third week and I was really enjoying myself.

"I did have injuries today but I didn’t really want to focus on that. It was always going to be tough in the whole competition but I’m really gutted that I’m leaving today.”

Saying she’d enjoyed her time on the show “immensely”, the soap star added: “I’ve got a back injury now and I really went with the pain. They felt Laura danced better and that’s what they thought and I appreciate that.

“It’s at the point in the competition where one group has to go and it’s unfortunate that it has to be me.”

The actress, who has told how appearing on the show was one of her life’s ambitions, added: “Every department shows a lot of love and you guys watch it at home but it’s really lovely to be a part of it and I’m grateful, so thank you.”

She told Gorka he was “a great asset” to the show. “You have showed me so much passion, so much patience, motivation and I love you. I really do. I think you’re fantastic.”

He said she was an “amazing person”.

Saturday night’s Strictly scored an emphatic win in the ratings, pulling in 9.6million with a peak of 10.6m, compared with a series low of 6.2m, and 7.3million peak, for the first live X Factor on ITV. The two shows overlapped for nearly an hour.

Last week many viewers complained on social media that Melvin’s departure had been unfair following Anastacia ’s refusal to perform in the dance off, and some felt that racism was in play.

Nicky Linnane wrote: “Called Strictly result for tonight correctly because it’s so fixed and blatantly racist I’ll never watch it again.”

Emily Oram agreed: “I say this every year, the early voting on Strictly is straight up racist.”

A BBC source said that the Corporation could not be held responsible for the way in which the audience voted.

“If there is an issue to explore, it lies with the audience not voting for her, which we have no control over.”

The EastEnders star who faced the dreaded dance-off with her partner Gorka Marquez against Laura Whitmore and Giovanni Pernice, has revealed she danced with a number of injuries.

She explained that she had been suffering from a number of painful injuries and even performed with a knee brace on.

Tameka's determination to perform despite being in pain comes just one week after Anastacia was spared from the dance-off when she found herself with the least amount of public votes alongside Melvin Odoom.

Producers decided to spare the singer and instead send Melvin home after it was revealed that she had ripped cancer scar tissue during rehearsals meaning she couldn't compete in the dance-off.

Speaking after she was voted off the series, the actress commented: "I did have injuries today but I didn't really want to focus on that but it was always going to be tough in the whole competition but I'm really gutted that I'm leaving today."

"I've got a back injury now and I really went with the pain."

An unnamed source added to The Sun that Tameka as not happy that she too was not given immunity during last night's results show.

Tameka was eliminated from the competition last night
"Tameka thought it was unfair that producers allowed Anastacia to skip the dance-off due to an injury but she was still forced to do it despite harbouring several agonising injuries," they told the publication.

"It seems as though show producers have one rule for some and different rules for others."

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative regarding these reports.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday on BBC One at 6.30pm.

Will this go on every week now?? Anyone with injuries will need to be excluded from the dance-off or not??!!   Will it be only Anastacia??? and will it be for existing problems only??
I think they need to re-think the ruling (to perhaps double elimination the following week)
btw if Ore or Naga leave next week there will be uproar-

I think you either dance or you don't, in main show, (if injured) & allowed a bye for one week only. If you do dance with an injury & are then unable to do the dance off, then you're gone.

I voted for Ore but not Tameka or Naga - am I only partly racist?! Think the 'racism row' is headline making sh1te, dreamed up by the media due to lack of romances!!

I'd agree with all of this - the only place there's been a 'racism row' in the show is in the papers.

Agree Maisie. I don't think it's a case of racism.

I like Ore & Naga but Tameka not so much.
That's down to personality not colour of skin.

Tameka was mid table (dangerous) with a new pro
(no fan base). That's Strictly for you.
