He was competing against a 74-year-old with terminal brain cancer, but NFL star Keyshawn Johnson was the first person to be ejected from Dancing With The Stars.

Wearing a black shirt with white checkered pattern unbuttoned to reveal his bare chest, the American football player did a funky yet sloppy samba with partner Sharna Burgess - which only earned him an 18, with a combined total of 35 points for the two weeks.

‘It was rough around the edges,' judge Carrie Ann Inaba told the 41-year-old ESPN commentator, while Bruno Tonioli questioned the legality of some of the moves.

Disappointing finish: NFL player Keyshawn Johnson said he felt like he let down partner Sharna Burgess by their early elimination

Sloppy samba: The hulking athlete very nearly dropped the pretty brunette right in front of the judges at the end of their routine

Ever the optimist, Len Goodman praised the resident jock for ‘working his assets’ - though he only gave him six points in the end.

The sporty man mountain was hardly surprised by his elimination: ‘For a guy that's never even bobbed his head in the car, the fact that I could even have the experience to dance and learn what dance is all about... is something amazing to me,’ he said.

Keyshawn battled it out in the bottom two with comedian Bill Engvall, who sat just four points ahead on 39 with partner Emma Slater.

Failed to score: The 41-year-old was awarded a total of 35 points following last week's debut performance score of 18

Boys will be boys: The ESPN sportscaster will no doubt be heckled by his peers following his early exit from the dancing show

Standing ovation: Judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli looked sad to see the first contestant leave the competition

Meanwhile, 74-year-old Valerie Harper, who is battling terminal brain cancer, made it through to the next round despite some painful straining in her knees.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show actress sits on 40 points following her competent paso doble with Irish pro Tristan MacManus.

‘You seemed a little bit nervous,’ Len told the resilient star, who has already outlived her doctor’s expectations by months.

Fan favourite: Glee's Amber Riley busted her fiercest moves as she took to the stage in a shiny candy blue number to perform a lively jive

Energetic routine: The actress cartwheeled her way to the top of the leaderboard alongside hunky partner Derek Hough

While Carrie Ann added that she 'looked a bit lost toward the end'.

The other 11 contestants remain after a night of fiery Latin-themed routines.

Dressed in swishy crimson, Saved By The Bell actress Elizabeth Berkley did a saucy samba with Val Chmerkovskiy.

Bosom buddies: The curvy star was fearful that her ample bosom wouldn't behave during the bouncy routine, though Derek didn't seem too concerned as he went in for a closer inspection

Nothing to fear: The couple were elated to make it through to next week and currently stand on an impressive 51 points out of a possible 60

Achieving a respectable 49 points, the Showgirls star looked pleased with the result which sees her at number three on the leaderboard.

‘I think I’m coming down with scarlet fever,’ Bruno told the mom-of-one, who was previously dubbed ‘the underdog of the season’.

‘God you moved fast,’ the flamboyant judge added.

Showstoppers: Christina Milian and Mark Ballas had the audience up on their feet as they performed their gothic number to Lady Gaga's Applause

Applause! The singer gave a laugh of relief while her partner fist pumped their save from elimination

TV host and singing pocket rocket Christina Milian performed a feisty and gothic paso doble to Lady Gaga with her pro partner Mark Ballas.

While the footwork may have not been 100 per cent perfect, Len called it ‘focused and fierce’, while the crowd showed their support as they got up en masse, dancing along to the music.

Carrie Ann dubbed the routine ‘insane’, giving the pair a nine, while two eights from the men saw them achieve a total of 47.

Star support: Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler cheered and clapped away from the audience

Returning star: Former pro dancer-turned-actress Julianne Hough  revealed she'll return to the show that made her a star, this time behind the judging desk as she fills in for Len Goodman in two weeks' time

Youngster in the group High School Musical actor Corbin Bleu scored 50 for his jump-laden jive with Karina Smirnoff.

‘Wow... You. Can. Dance,’ exclaimed Bruno.

Comedian Bill rocked around the clock with his scantily clad partner Emma Slater, though after landing in the bottom two, he'll have to pull his socks up next week in order to stay in the competition.

I can't hear you! The actor called for the audience's Wildcat support in reference to his HSM roots as he dressed as a basketballer for the routine

Good sport: Judge Carrie Ann Inaba got into the spirit as she played along

Carrie Ann loved their entertaining routine but called the footwork ‘a little funky’.

Overall, the 56-year-old’s bootie shaking moves were 'thoroughly enjoyed' by Len.

Jack Osbourne, who last year discovered he has multiple sclerosis, beat himself up in rehearsals.

‘I’ve got the worst genes in my family': Jack Osbourne went through a long list of his flaws during rehearsal with pro Cheryl Burke, who couldn't help but have a giggle

Sultry: The star impressed with his rumba, for which he was awarded a total of 47 points for the two weeks

‘I’ve got the worst genes in my family,’ said the 27-year-old son of Ozzy, whose mother Sharon popped in to tell him to ‘take that terrified look off his face’.

‘I’m f*****g fat, heart problem, MS, cant f*****g sing, can’t act - I’m like doomed,’ tittered Jack, whose sister Kelly Osbourne has also appeared on the show.

The humorous contestant did a slinky rumba while his megastar parents and sister watched proudly from the sidelines.

Supportive sibling: Sister Kelly Osbourne lead the audience in a rapturous round of applause for the father-of-one

Dark and stormy:  Carrie Ann likened the routine to Game Of Thrones as judges rewarded the 27-year-old's efforts

Despite his fears, he scored a competitive 47.

‘It was like Game Of Thrones,’ said Carrie Ann.

Glee star Amber Riley was concerned her ample bosom might jiggle too freely during her lively jive.

Fears abated: Leah shimmied her way into next week in a bright pink dress

Pure relief: Leah was thankful to the fans for their support as she made it through

But the 27-year-old cartwheeled to the top of the scoreboard with an inventive dance full of flicks, kicks and fancy footwork alongside Emmy-winning partner Derek Hough.

‘You are irresistible... that was terrific,’ said Bruno, as the judges awarded them 51 points.

Jersey Shore wild child Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi - whom host Tom Bergeron affectionally calls Snookole - was worried some of the sexy moves ‘might get her pregnant’.

Pretty Little Friends: The actor was cheered on by Pretty Little Liars castmates Shay Mitchell, Ashley Benson and Sasha Pieterse (from left), who gave him an enthusiastic thumbs up and snapped away on their phones

‘My fiancé is watching!’ she squealed to partner Sasha Farber.

Wearing a silver leotard with flowy white train, the pint-sized mom-of-one said she was ‘in the moment’ - though her pouty face didn’t convince the judges.

‘I didn’t feel the story from you,’ said Carrie Ann, while scolding them and deducting a point for using lifts in a rumba.

Pocket rocket: Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi and Sasha Farber were thrilled to make it through the elimination

Pocket rocket! The petite mom showed off some rather impressive moves, though the judges - and viewers - were distracted by her serious facial expression

‘I might get her pregnant!’: During rehearsals, the star fretted that her fiancé, Jionni LaValle, wouldn't approve of the couple's intimate moves

‘It was pretty, but a little bit sharp,’ said Len as the judges gave them 43 points.

Scientology defector Leah Remini revealed in her video package that she’s been having trouble adjusting to normality.

‘I'm going through a personal big change for me and my family,’ she told her partner, Tony Dovolani.

Teary moment: During rehearsals, Tristan MacManus was brought to tears by partner Valerie Harper's amazing strength and determination

Trouper: The terminally ill actress suffered a fall while practising the routine due to a knee injury, though in true form, she soldiered on without complaint

Going strong: The 74-year-old gave the paso doble her all, flashing plenty of leg in her traditional red and black ruffled costume

‘I was always so scared to be myself. Everything that happens is always your fault, you’re used to taking a on lot of negativity,’ added the 43-year-old King Of Queens actress.

‘The church is looking for me to fail so they can say to their parishioners, "See what happens when you leave,"' she added.

After ‘working her socks off’ in rehearsals, she now sits on 45 points following her samba.

Lady in red: Elizabeth Berkley made quite the impact during her samba with pro Val Chmerkovskiy

Working up a sweat! The pair's saucy samba put them at number three on the leaderboard

One of the older contestants, Bill Nye, slid to the bottom of the pile with a wobbly but fun paso doble where he dressed as a ‘Crazy Science Guy’ complete with Albert Einstein-style white wig.

‘That was a weird, bizarre masterpiece of insanity,’ Carrie Ann told the 57-year-old, who has become a firm crowd favourite for his humour and likeability.

Close call! The expression on the couple's faces was priceless as they narrowly made it through

Pretty Little Liars hunk Brant Daugherty displayed some steamy chemistry with his pro partner Peta Murgatroyd, cheered on by co-stars Shay Mitchell, Ashley Benson and Sasha Pieterse.

After Peta stripped the ABC Family star of his jacket, Bruno piped up with: ‘Why stop at the jacket?’

Their sultry dance floor foreplay achieved them 45 points.
