Big Brother Australia started tonight. If you are interested, the website is www.bigbrother.com.au

The show started with a twist. Each contestant had to choose a key before entering the house. Each key opened one of two doors. Depending on the door opened they entered either the have section with the pool and luxuries, or the have not section which has small beds and no hot water.

Its divided by a perspex fence. The haves had canapes and wine available to consume. The have nots had nothing.

I might have a look Margi. Great idea for a twist.

To have a shower in the have not section of the house requires a group effort. The shower is a rigged up to a large watering can connected to a pipe. Another person has to sit on a stationary bicycle and cycle like mad to allow cold water to flow through the pipe and the watering can. Their shower is outside the house in the open. The beds in the have not section are half size. The wooden bed frames and mattresses are half single bed size - either full length and half the width or full width and half the length. Who thinks these up?? The contestants ended up ditching the bed frames and laying the mattresses together on the floor to make up larger sleeping areas.

When all the housemates are required in the loungeroom for a group announcement, the have nots sit on basic seats in a very small section of the lounge room that is sealed off by perspex bars to the rest of the lounge room.

In another twist 2 new housemates entered the house on day 2. BB told them they had to convincingly pretend they were a married couple for a week. She is 22, he is 24 and only met before being told this. If they were not caught out before the week was up, they would be immune from eviction at the end of the week. If they were caught out and BB was told by another housemate that this couple were not married before the end of the week, they will automatically be nominated for eviction. BB had a room with a door labelled "do no enter". It was reserved for this couple as the honeymoon suite and was very richly appointed compared to the haves bedroom. It has a king bed in it, but BB told them that the beds can be separated into 2 singles. They chose not to separate the beds in order to keep up appearances. They tried to get their stories the same, but were constantly asked about how they met, how long have they been married, how was the wedding propsal done, how much did the engagement ring cost etc. They can't let their guard down.

There is only one kitchen and its on the have's side They cook the meals for all the house mates, but the have nots cannot eat iuntil the haves have finished eating.
There is only one laundry and its on the have not's side. They have to do the laundry for all the house mates.

There are 2 diary rooms. There is the regular diary room for the main part of the house and one for the Housemates in the 'halfway house' for the have nots. The chair in this room is a large wooden framed chair which is only half uoholstered. The cushioned upholstered part of the seat is cut in half so the layers of fabric and foam are exposed.

I haven't watched big brother, as not a fan of Davina, but this plot sounds interesting and evil!!! (dividing them into have's and have not's!!!)
Are they just a bunch of young (mostly unemployed wannabee's ) like on UK???
I watched for about 10 mins once, they just sat around, biatched about people and talked a lot of drivel, so haven['t  got the time to watch that. Over here too there used to be someone with a broad 'Geordie' accent too, commentating which was too funny to take seriously.

There are a mixture of people. One is a former soldier who has fought in Afghanistan, but is now a civilian and and apprentice electrician. Some are uni students. One lady is really married and has children being cared for by her husband. Jade who is pretending to be married lived in Italy for a while and can speak fluent Italian. She was a swim suit model in Italy, but is now a part time model and works in a bar after she returned to Austalia. Another is a teacher. There may be one or 2 unemployed people. All the men bar one have great bodies and obviously work out. The people in the Half way house (the have nots as I call them) don't have access to the gym equipment in the house so they improvise.

I had trouble with the live feed too.

The fake married couple's marriage ended today. BB asked.the housemates if they thought this.couple were really married before the reveal. Only 2 believed they were married. BB told the non believers that if they were wrong they would all be nominated for eviction. He then told them to watch the wedding video. A look of panic came across their faces. Of course it was the video of them being told by BB to pretend to ne married. Unfortunately the fake married couple have automatically been nominated for eviction and the honeymoon suite closed off.

Most of the male housemates were quite happy that there was nother single female in the house.

In another twist three new housemates moved in today. A single male and 2 sisters. The sisters are a year apart in age, but look like twins. They have the same blonde hair style, wear identical clothing and fake tans. BB has told the sisters that they will be considered as one housemate, not 2 and must always be no more than 3 metres from each other in the house.

The Aussie version sounds similar to the UK show.

We've had a fake married couple and twins here.

I remember the twins. Our BB several years ago had a live up late session and they aired about 2 hours a night after 10.30pm. Our BB arranged for the Aussie housemates to speak to the UK housemates by phone. They had about 10 - 15 minutes on the phone and they spoke to the twins. I remember talking about it here as it happened, but there was a 30 minute delay in it being aired - not sure if it was on line or on TV there.

All the have nots were allowed to move into the safe house with the other housemates and sleep in a proper bed. They then had the nominations for evictions. The six nominees for eviction were told they had to move into the halfway house until Monday when the first eviction occurs. Four of those 6 were previously living in the haves section in the safe house.

The first evictee was a mother of 3 children under the age of six. She really didn't think about her clothing choice on the eviction night. She was wearing a strapless long casual dress that she kept pulling up every 5 minutes. When she finally was evicted and went out to meet the host of BB, her kids were there and wanted to be picked up. Almost a wardrobe malfunction moment. She did manage to pull the dress up just in time - luckily her child made a good shield from the public.

It was a double eviction this week. The new nominees for the next eviction have moved over to the halfway house (the have nots) and consist of Matt the former soldier and 5 girls. He thinks he is in hell, not heaven. The fussing over hair and make up and the girls' general untidiness in the bedroom is freaking him out. The bedroom on the side is a lot smaller than the safe house. He has decided to take charge and get the girls organised.
The have nots had a restless sleep the second night as it was quite noisy. They discovered that BB had construction workers in overnight to remove the perspex fence and bars, do a bit of redecorating and the house is no longer divided.

This was a first for BB Australia, and possibly any BB in the world. On Saturday 7.9.12, Australia goes to the polls to elect the party and Prime Minister to lead the nation. In Australia it is compulsory to vote in State and Federal elections (with fines if you don't vote). Yesterday, BB anounced to the housemates that the Federal election would be on this Saturday. A few months ago there was a leadership challenge and our first female PM was ousted and the male PM she ousted in much the same fashion 2-3 years ago was back in. Before she was ousted she had announced that there would be a Federal election on 14.9.13, so the HMs probably knew that date, but the current PM changed the date to this Saturday.
Each leader of the major political parties recorded a election video especially for BB that the HMs watched. They were then told the diary room had been turned into a polling booth and each in turn could do a pre polling day vote.

I read yesterday that Hugh Jackman was in Toronto and missed his chance to do a postal vote, but he found out he could vote at the Australian embassy there. Australia House in London is the busiest place outside Australia to vote prepolling day.

BB had a double eviction this week, but only one was real. The person who was given the most votes to stay in the house was the fake evictee, a sweet man name Ben, who everyone likes, including the public. He was unaware it was fake until he was ushered into the presidential suite (normally used as an overnight reward for a HM who wins showdown each week). He was told by the host via the TV screen that his eviction was fake and he would be in the presidental suite for at least 24 hours. BB gave him instructions that gave him special privileges at different times of his stay. Apart from having great food and cocktails prepared for him, BB gave him inside information on HMs. For example he could choose 2 HM to go into the diary room at different times and ask them 3 questions, Ben had to pose questions to BB and BB asked the questions to the chosen HMs and Ben could hear the answers. One of the questions asked was "Since Ben has been evicted, what is your strategy to try to win BB?". There was a car wash task and Ben coulds choose who could do the easier or more difficult tasks for that challenge.
The HM were really upset that Ben had been evicted and quite a few shed some tears over him. After 24 hours, BB told the HMs via video footage of what happened to Ben. Ben then re-entered the house, but he was worried about their reactions. He needn't have worried as they all welcomed him back with open arms.

They have had 2 male and 2 female intruders on the show which is pretty standard. One male intruder was evicted after 1 week (he was the nasty one). The 2 female intruders are nice girls. One was to be evicted this week. The one the housemates wanted to stay was the one voted by the viewing public to be evicted. Nathan, the remaining male intruder, saved the evicted girl and told BB he wanted to leave / self evict so both girls could stay. Hew said he wanted to experience BB abd he had but he wanted to go in order to save the evicted female intruder. Apparently its the first time ever that a HM has self evicted to save another from elimination.

In a shock, Ben, who eveyone thought would win BB, including all the HM was evicted as well. He was the best HM. He had lots of insecurities, but that made him more endearing to the viewers. All the HMs looked out for him and were all in shock and disbelief when he was evicted. the amount of tears shed by the HMs over Ben's eviction would have filled a 10 litre bucket.

BB was really mean to the HMs this week. Each week they are given a challenge that takes place on and off the whole week in order to earn money to buy luxury groceries. They failed two weeks in a row and were on staples, which were running low and had to be rationed. This week's task involved the HMs freezing like statures on BB's command and only being allowed to move once BB told them to release. Because food was running low BB was using it as a psychological tool. He inauguarated 'house mate of the week' which was won by Drew. He got his own private lockable fridge as a reward with a week's worth of luxury food and drink that he could prepare and eat whenever he wanted that week. He was not allowed to share the food with other HMs unless BB gave him permission to do so. Another time BB got 2 housemates who have become an item to have a picnic in 'the Garden of Eden'. BB supplied champagne, and really yummy food for them. They poured a glass of champagne each and started to drink when BB told them to freeze. He then allowed 2 other HMs to go in and enjoy the food for about 30 minutes and then told them to leave. They did leave food for the frozen two. When BB told those two to release, he told them to enjoy the picnic and 1 minute later told them their time was up and they had to leave. Another time he treated them all to an icecream cone. After 10 seconds he told them all to freeze and only allowed them to release when the icecreams had melted.

BB also distract the while doing this week's challenge - some funny, some not. The funny ones - when told to freeze, BB sent in 6 members of a nudist club in to wander around the open yard and take a swim in the pool in their natural wear. Another time the HMs could see a giant crane overhead. When told to freeze, the crane lowered a harness, which BB's ninja assistants put on one of the HMs and she was lifted 5 metres into the air for a few minutes, the lowered again, while trying to maintain the frozen pose she had on the ground.
On 3 other frozen moment occasions, BB sent in a family member or loved one to talk and interact with the HMs, but of course it had to remain all one sided as the HMs could not react to them.

The HMs won the challenge - BB couldn't be that cruel to deny them decent food for the following week.

The shopping budget for the staples diet is A$5.00 (£2.96) per person for the week.

Its over for another year. It will return in 2014. Two on screen romances, Ben's popularity and Tim's (who won) stategies made it very entertaining viewing.
Mr George Clooney the cattle dog was an exceptional canine housemate who was very smart, could do tricks and like to see who would give in to him at night when he wanted to sleep on someone's bed. He would jump onto someone's bed and he would be taken off the bed. Before the person could adjuct the blanket, Mr Clooney was back on it. This would happen several times on the same bed, even though there were several beds. One incident shown was of Mr Clooney, alone, chewing up a cushion. BB announced "This is Big Brother. Mr Clooney stop chewing on BB's cushion. It is very expensive". Mr Clooney stopped and the look on his face said it all - like - who said that, there is no one else here but me.
