Dancing on Ice judge Robin Cousins is back to star in Grease at Bristol Hippodrome

FORMER Olympic champion and Dancing on Ice judge Robin Cousins will leave his hometown audiences hopelessly devoted to his charms when Grease rocks into The Bristol Hippodrome this year.

The skating legend will swap the ice rink for the stage to reprise his role as Teen Angel in the smash hit musical, which tours to Bristol from April 2-7.

Robin told the Post: "After being part of Grease in the West End and on tour last year, I am very excited to be re-joining this fantastic cast to once again play Teen Angel in this fun and vibrant show, especially as we'll be stopping in my hometown of Bristol.

"I can't wait to return to the Hippodrome and have the cast feel a great Bristolian welcome."

Grease is the original high-school musical featuring everyone's favourite characters – good girl Sandy, greaser Danny, the cool T Birds, the sassy Pink Ladies and the whole gang at Rydell High – with all the unforgettable songs from the hit movie including You're The One That I Want, Grease Is The Word, Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted to You, Sandy, Greased Lightnin' and many more.

Often voted the number one greatest musical, this love story bursting with cheerleaders, Brylcream, rock'n'roll, 1950's pop culture and an irresistible mix of teenage angst and young romance, is timeless and universal.

Following its electrifyin' four-year London run, and for the first time in over five years, the hit West End show began a new tour last spring. It now continues to rock 'n' roll around the UK including its one week stint in Bristol.

Danny Bayne, who won ITV's Grease is the Word in 2007, stars as Danny with Carina Gillespie as his sweetheart Sandy. The couple follow in the footsteps of John Travolta and Olivia Newton John who famously played the roles in the hit 1978 movie.

Robin Cousins will play Teen Angel; a cameo role which includes the ironic comedy song Beauty School Dropout, played by heart-throb Frankie Avalon in the film.

Bristol-born Robin Cousins is one of Britain's most famous and best loved individual ice skaters, retiring from the ice rink in 2000, after 30 years on the ice and 20 years of professional skating.

Cousins grew up in Sea Mills and started learning to skate at Bristol's ice rink on Frogmore Street, which last week the Post announced is to close its doors to the public after more than 45 years.

During his highly successful career, Robin won the World Free Skating Championship Gold medal three times and rose to the top in 1980, winning World Championship Silver and capping his amateur career with the European Championship and Olympic Gold medals.

He was appointed MBE that year for his services to sport and skating, and more recently was made an Official Team GB Ambassador for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

He has since forged a career as a professional skater and choreographer across the globe.

Television viewers saw Robin back heading the new Dancing on Ice judging panel when the hit ITV1 show returned to our screens on Sunday.

Grease appears at The Bristol Hippodrome from Monday, April 2, to Saturday, April 7. Tickets cost £13-£40. Tel 0844 847 2325
