Who should be voted back into the X Factor?
With Frankie Cocozza now gone, the X Factor bosses have decided to bring back one of the first four acts to be eliminated

Frankie Cocozza's abrupt departure from the X Factor has left the show in an almighty pickle. Between that and Sunday's double elimination, there now aren't enough contestants left to get the show to Christmas. Handily, though, the X Factor bosses have schemed up an ingenious wheeze to get things back on an even keel.

No, they're not bringing Johnny back. No, they're not letting Ashford from Nu Vibe enter the finals for a third time. And, no, sadly they're not going to just wrap things up a week earlier than usual in a show of impressive human kindness. Instead, in what might rank as one of the worst reality twists in living memory, they're giving the first four acts a chance to return.

Oh, you remember. During this year's first live X Factor results show, four acts were voted off by their own mentors – James Michael, Amelia Lily, 2 Shoes and Jonjo Kerr. Later on Thursday, phone lines will open allowing the public to vote one of them back and, on Saturday, the winner will perform live with the other finalists.

Hokey? Yes. Pointless? Yes. The moment that future historians will pinpoint as the death of X Factor? Undoubtedly. But, look, one of these acts has to return. The least I can do is remind you who they are.

James Michael

You probably don't remember who James Michael is. That's not your fault. You're only human. James Michael was the boy who wore a hat. Still don't remember him? In the first show he performed a version of Ticket To Ride that couldn't have been any more unstoppably maudlin if it was accompanied by a slow motion black and white video of a refuge for abused donkeys. Still don't remember him? In his VT he essentially told a sob story about the technical ins and outs of the residential lettings industry. Still don't remember him? It's OK. Nor can anybody else. You won't be seeing him on Saturday.

Amelia Lily

People were predicting big things for Amelia Lily before Kelly Rowland booted her out in the first week. She has a hugely powerful voice. She has a vastly impressive vocal range. And, despite this, she was ejected from X Factor over Sophie Habibis, whose main selling point appeared to be the fact that she occasionally wore nice dresses. Amelia is currently the favourite to return to X Factor on Saturday, partly because of her natural talent and partly because Frankie Cocozza reportedly reduced her to tears in a pub car park and revenge is sweet.

2 Shoes

If Amelia doesn't make it back on Saturday, then hopefully 2 Shoes will. Because 2 Shoes were brilliant. They were the essence of Stacey Solomon – gleefully incomprehensible when they had to speak but deceptively competent singers – split in two and painted fluorescent orange. 2 Shoes could have provided the excitement that's been so sorely missing from this year's series, but it's probably too late now. Even if they did return, they'd only set Gary Barlow's fun detectors off, and he'd humourlessly drone on about it until the public voted them off just to make him stop.

Jonjo Kerr

Under no circumstances should Jonjo Kerr return to X Factor. At every stage of the competition, he messed up. He forgot the words to his songs. He kept stopping and restarting almost everything he did. He wore a manky hat. But all of this pales into insignificance next to Jonjo's performance of You Really Got Me in the first live show. It was karaoke, but karaoke as performed by a concussed boxer who'd never heard the song or fully understood the concept of singing. It was awful. It made Frankie Cocozza look like Andrea Bocelli. Please don't vote Jonjo Kerr back. For me.

So, purely because someone has to, who do you want to return to X Factor this week? - Source

predictably it will be Amelia Lilly yawn - though after the stuff she supposedly said to the press re other girls and Kelly might be embarrassing at least her parents will stop moaning to all and sundry (well hopefully) though they should be used to all the goings on after any dream will do
