Sacked star's ultimatum: Double or I quit

BY COLIN ROBERTSON, TV Editor, and RICHARD WHITE

SEETHING Cheryl Cole was last night revealed to have issued an ultimatum to Simon Cowell over returning to X Factor here: Double my money or I QUIT.

A source said after the Girls Aloud beauty was fired as a judge on his American version of the show: "It is humiliating for Cheryl.

"She believes she should be handsomely compensated for it."

The hike would see her pay top £2million. But an exclusive Sun poll yesterday piled pressure on Cowell - with almost two in three X Factor fans saying they wanted the Geordie pop babe, 27, back.

Cowell, 51 - currently back in the UK - was yesterday locked in talks about reinstating her.

Her manager Will.i.am is also negotiating with ITV, where an insider said: "We are trying to sort this out quickly. Time is running out. The first filmed auditions are in Birmingham on Wednesday."

Veteran judge Louis Walsh said of Cheryl returning to the show: "We'd welcome her with open arms." New panel member Gary Barlow, 40 - on tour with Take That - is believed to have urged her to return in a phone call.

JLS - the X Factor boyband Cheryl helped propel to fame - also pledged support for her.

Singer Marvin Humes, 26, said of the upcoming series: "It would have sorely missed her."

An X Factor source said: "Cheryl loves the show and the fans, but she's holding a strong deck of cards." The Sun's YouGov poll revealed just a third of viewers thought Cowell was right to sack her after TV execs said she looked too nervy.

His spokesman - and Cheryl's - refused to comment last night. ITV was also tightlipped.
