Dr Zhivahgo will have its world premiere in Sydney in February. Anthony Warlow, a highly acclaimed performer in musicals in Australia will play the lead. When he starred in The Secret Garden in Australia in 1995, Lucy Simon who wrote the music for The Seceret Garden, saw him perform, went back stage and told Anthony that he was the Dr Zhivahgo she wanted for the musical when the time was right.

The preview was supposed to start last week, but had to be cancelled. Anthony Warlow tore a calf muscle during a rehearsal a few hours before the preview. His understudy took over for the first thirty minutes of the preview, with the audience offered a refund or tickets for another performance. The next 4 performances used his understudy in the lead. Anthony was given the medical OK to resume tomorrow.

My sister saw Dr Zhivahgo last night. She said it was brilliant and a must see musical.

I'm off to see Dr Zhivahgo tomorrow. Internet bookings make it so much easier as I can use the option to print my tickets off at home. I only bought them today so I won't have to queue at the box office tomorrow.

It was brilliant. There were some children in the audience, and if you know the story and timeline of Dr Zhivahgo, it would have been a little heavy and not that suitable for them, considering some of the scenes. There were warnings on entry to the theatre of the use of gunfire and the noise from it. All part of the drama.

Once the season finishes in Sydney, it will go down to Melbourne for 2-3 months, then up to Brisbane. When it is produced overseas, I don't know if the lead role will be played by Anthony Warlow, as he was the songwriters choice for Dr Zhivahgo.

The staging was fantastic too. A mixture of background and side sets, props which were multifunctional, and projected images.
