X Factor oddball Wagner Carrilho yesterday fled the contestants’ house after demanding to stay in a hotel to play his bongo drums.

The 54-year-old Brazilian, who has ‘intimidated’ his fellow finalists and production staff, even insisted that his new residence must be fully equipped with a swimming pool and a masseuse.

His mentor Louis Walsh is footing the bill.

A source said last night: ‘Wagner has moved into a hotel as he said he wanted to play his bongo drums in private.

‘He has been quite difficult and temperamental around some of the contestants and producers, so perhaps it is the best thing.

'It’s fair to say that he has intimidated quite a few people.’

His outburst comes days after it emerged he has been claiming £91.40 a week in incapacity benefit throughout his time on the ITV talent show - despite giving a series of energetic performances.

He has also had to kept away from female dancers on the show, because of his wandering hands, and separated from show researcher Helen Banhoa.

He became obsessed with the 27-year-old researcher after she was assigned to look after him.

Wagner claims such episodes are harmless examples of his ‘Brazilian exuberance’.

But as producers consider a double eviction tomorrow, it looks increasingly likely that Wagner will face the axe from Simon Cowell.
