It was the show that kick-started her glamorous make-over - and last night Kelly Osbourne returned triumphant and trimmer than ever to the set of Dancing With the Stars.

The star was wearing a tight black lace mini dress with cutaway see-through panels that showed off her tiny frame as she appeared on the 200th edition of the show, the US version of Strictly.

With a blonde, Fifties style tied back hairstyle with a heavy fringe, Kelly introduced Bristol Palin onto the dancefloor, as contestants chose to re-enact their favourite dances from past series.

Surprise: Kelly mocks shock that she's kept her svelte figure a year on from her appearance on Dancing With The Stars

In great shape: Kelly laughed as host Tom Bergeron joked that she'd 'let herself go' since being on the show last year

Daughter of US politician Sarah Palin, Bristol chose to recreate Kelly's Viennese waltz from last year's series nine.

Host Tom Bergeron got a few laughs when he told Kelly: 'I think I speak for everyone her when I say 'It's a shame how you've let yourself go'.

Kelly laughed off his comments and instead focused on Bristol.

She  said: 'It's going to be really hard to re-interpret that because it meant something so much different to me.

'But with Bristol she's got so much heart and that's what I'm looking for, honesty and heart, she's the only one who's not a performer on this show, and she's come on and she's working her butt off and I've got so much respect for her.'

And Bristol's dance went well, winning the teen 33 points.

Carrie Ann told her. 'You have that power, to touch us. I find you very endearing.'

But she had some criticism, telling Bristiol she went: 'From in and out of this beautiful swan, back into a pigeon.'

Kelly had only encouragement for her protege.

'There's something about you that gave me goose bumps, she told her. And I know that you were so scared about this but you did fantastic, you really did.'

Elsewhere on the show, Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey was dubbed 'a phoenix from the ashes' as she returned to the top of the leaderboard.

Her stunning return to form came after the actress narrowly survived elimination when she found herself in the bottom two last week with Audrina Patridge.

She did a re-interpretation of Drew Lachey's perfect scoring tango in season two.

Top performance: The audience rose to their feet in a standing ovation following her tango with Derek Hough

Grey, 50, was seen sobbing in rehearsals as she struggled to perfect her routine. But her tears were premature, as the audience rose to their feet in a standing ovation following her tango with Cheryl Cole's special friend, Derek Hough.

'You're a phoenix rising from the ashes,' a delighted Bruno Tonioli told her. 'The most splendid thing ever. You should have some confidence.'

And head judge Len Goodman saw something restorative in her dance.

'I think all that frustration you vented in this tango,' he told her, as she celebrated her 37 points.

Both Len and Bruno are currently jetting backwards and forwards between London and Los Angeles each week to film both DWTS and Strictly.

Meanwhile Disney star Kyle, 19, chose Mel B's paso doble.

Introducing the dance Spice Girl Mel told the audience she didn't find the angry attitude difficult.

'You know for me it was getting the technique down, because I already had the anger,' she explained. 'I had quite a bit of anger back then.'

Kyle and his partner Lacey Schwimmer performed an angry, but  arguably less elegant version of the dance.

Back to judge: Mel B returned to give her verdict on her famous paso doble

'Fantastic': Kyle was thrilled with his ten points from guest judge Mel B

Even former critic Len loved it, telling them: 'Next week, the quarter finals. You've said it, you've got to up your game. And... that was your best dance!"

Guest judge Mel was a fan, telling Kyle he was 'amazing' and 'very sexy', before awarding him a 10.

And Bruno exclaimed: 'You had the attack and untamed energy of a young bull!'

With 35 points, Kyle was thrilled.

On the floor: The Disney star threw himself into the acting

Season three champion Emmitt Smith returned to judge Kurt Warner, who recreated his fellow football star's tango with Anna Trebunskaya.

'You went from last week Mission: Impossible to this week Mission: Accomplished,' Bruno told him, but he criticised Kurt's habit of pushing his neck forward.

But Emmitt emphasised: 'I understand why you've got your neck forward, you've got to protect yourself on the football field.'

And with 34 points, Kurt was pleased with his score.

Rick Fox meanwhile reinterpreted Helio Castroneves' quickstep pleased the judges.

'You did your best performance today - more faces than Jim Carrey,' said Bruno.

The retire basketball star won 37 points.

Following Rick was Brandy, who has consistently topped the leader board.

A perfect ten: Len Goodman was delighted with Brandy's foxtrot, telling her it was 'the most fantastic of the season'

She and dance partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy danced the foxtrot as they recreated Gilles Marini's dance.

Len was very impressed - he even got out his 10 scorecard for the first time in the season.

'I'm surprised at these people being so pedantic about a slight mistake when we've just witnessed the most fantastic foxtrot all season,' he told Brandy.

And Bruno agreed: 'That was a foxtrot sizzling with sex. Every step was driven by relentless eroticism.'

And with 37 points Brandy maintained her spot at the top of the leaderboard, jointly with Jennifer.

Earlier the six remaining dancers had kicked off the show with a group dance of the Cha Cha Cha.

Former Olympians Kristi Yamaguchi and Apolo Rick Fox Ohno each picked teams, with Kristi choosing Bristol, Kyle and Rick, while Brandy, Jennifer and Kurt  were on Apolo's team.

First to dance was Team Kristi, who were seen enjoying rehearsals before their dance to Day And Night.

'I thought you're the underdogs, but I must say you dogs have got quite a bite,' said Len Goodman.

Team Apolo: Brandy, Jennifer and Kurt performed their group routine

The team received a total of 24 points, to be added to each of their final scores.

Team Apolo had more difficulties during their practise sessions, but pulled it together for the performance.

Carrie Ann told them: 'Very tight, very crisp. You were all working at your best.'

And with 27 points each to add to their final score they were rewarded for their hard work.

The remaining hopefuls will learn who will be eliminated on tonight's all-important results show.
