Audrina Patridge was voted off Dancing With The Stars on Tuesday night, in a public vote that Len Goodman branded 'ludicrous'.

The former Hills star  looked tearful as she was sent home, despite scoring the second highest judges points.

Audrina had found herself in the bottom two with Dirty Dancing actress Jennifer Grey, despite them both being favourites to win the show.

'I'm almost lost for words. It is ludicrous that one of these is going home. It's absolute nonsense,' Goodman said before the final result was announced.

Tearful: In scenes filmed the previous evening, Audrina cried after being criticised by the judges

'The American people and the British people like the underdog, but we like justice more and there is no justice with these two being here.'

Patridge, 25, struggled to hold back her tears as hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke announced that the public had kicked her off the show.

The TV star had been so upset with the judge's negative comments the previous night that she cried backstage with dance partner Tony Dovolani.

Top performance: But although the judges awarded Audrina high marks, she failed to win public votes

But Bruno Tonioli defended the expert remarks, which saw the judges complaining that Patridge was not showing her full potential.

'She has improved, the technique gets better and better and better. Our comments are because we know she's got it, we want her to do better,' he said.

While Grey and partner Derek Hough breathed a sigh of relief at escaping getting the boot, the low scoring couples were celebrating the result.

Still in the show: Cheryl Burke and Rick Fox celebrate

Bristol Palin and Kurt Warner both lived to fight another day, despite receiving the lowest scores after their individual routines and a rock and roll marathon.

The judges even chose to watch Bristol's tango with partner Mark Ballas once more, highlighting it as the favourite  from the previous night.

Kyle Massey, Brandy and Rick Fox also remain in the competition.
