Worried ... Simon Cowell

SIMON Cowell has given mother-to-be Dannii Minogue two weeks to satisfy his concerns about her returning as a judge on X Factor.

The music mogul is worried her July baby could upset production on the ITV1 show, which starts filming within weeks.

Simon wants to be fully reassured that:

  • DANNII will be in good health - as the live shows kick off just weeks after she is due to deliver.

  • SHE is able to give the show her total attention.

  • THE contestants will be properly mentored.

Looking swell ... Dannii's baby bump shows in Melbourne yesterday

A source close to the star said: "Simon is genuinely concerned about whether Dannii will be able to cope with the show. It's hard enough for someone who doesn't have young kids. As well as the actual show, there is the mentoring and all the backbiting and bitchiness that goes with that.

"It's not easy keeping sane when you're surrounded by youngsters desperate for fame who are relying on you to tell them what to do."

Dannii, 38, whose boyfriend is British rugby league ace Kris Smith, showed little sign of cutting back yesterday as she flew from Melbourne to Perth for auditions for Australia's Got Talent.

She wants to return to the X Factor - but will miss the early rounds because she wants to have the baby in her native Oz.

If bosses do keep her on, they will have to find stand-in judges, which Simon knows will look odd.

The first wave of auditions kicks off on April 11 but the first filming involving judges takes place on June 9 in Glasgow, followed by eight more in Cardiff, London and Birmingham.

There are then four judging sessions in Dublin and Manchester and the boot camp stages in July - just as Dannii will be having the baby.

Simon is hoping to make a decision in a fortnight.

He could decide to get Dannii back for the live shows or give her an alternative role, possibly as an assistant mentor.

Or she could just be axed.

I bet Simon is quite thrilled that the Danni situation is drumming up so much press attention when there is nothing else to talk about re x factor
