Following on from Jon's comment about how nice soup is in winter, what is your favourite food to warm the cockles of your heart?

Mine has to be beef stew and dumplings, with bangers and mash a close second.

lovely thick chunky vegetable soup with big bits of potato. and chunks of farmhouse bread for dunking.

beef casserole with chunks of carrot and onion and luscious dark gravy, served with mashed potatoes.

or a nice cassoulet, full of beans and maybe some good quality sausage and chicken.

Not keen on risotto myself.

I do love Steak and Kidney pie with mash and cauliflower.
