'Major hit!': Frankie Sandford steals the Strictly top spot cheered on by glamorous front row supporters The Saturdays

It was the first time that Frankie Sandford would be flying solo on stage.

But when The Saturdays singer made her dancefloor debut on Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night, she still had band members Una Healy, Rochelle Wiseman, Vanessa White and Mollie King by her side.

Frankie's cheerleading pack were all perched front row to see her steal the spotlight from Friday night's leader board winner Jake Woods with a whopping score of 30.

She looked stunning in an emerald tutu dress on Saturday night, dancing to hauntingly beautiful Someone Like You by Adele.

And despite being afraid that she wouldn't have anyone to hide behind on the dance floor, Frankie certainly didn't need any back up when she was told she gave 'without a doubt the best dance of week one.’

Frankie waltzed around the dance floor by professional partner Kevin Clifton to the sound of tremendous woops from her band members.

'Deliciously romantic': Frankie is told that her dance to an Adele song was beautiful and believable

Newly-married Frankie was also supported by husband Wayne Bridge who looked on as the singer gave a 'deliciously romantic' performance, as Darcey called it.

The footballer chose not to sit with Frankie's four singing sisters, unlike Rochelle's husband Marvin Humes, instead being further back than the front row.

Frankie has been touring with the girls for the past three weeks and complained in her training video that she was worried she had been too busy to practise.

All trained out: The singer and mum of one was seemingly juggling way too much in rehearsals this week

It didn't show on the night though, which was called graceful, believable and elegant.

Alison Hammond was another celebrity who captivated the judging panel, but for energy as opposed to her elegance.

'Big, bold and bouncy’ is what Len called the This Morning presenter's performance to I'm Every Woman.

My kind of woman: Alison Hammond goes for it on her Strictly debut on Saturday night, dancing to I'm Every Woman

He said: 'You’re my kind of woman - big, bold and bouncy. You’re good in the mornings but you are really good at night.’

Craig added: ‘One of the most confident performances for a first time, I think I’ve ever seen. You have a natural, instinctive aptitude for dance. ‘

The bubbly TV presenter achieved a score of 26, coming second only Jake and Caroline Flack from the previous evening, despite saying she was only hoping for a minimum of five points.

Wow-worthy: The bold beauty was told that she gave one of the most confident first performances of the show

Also rivalling Jake and his partner at the top of the leaderboard, was last to perform Simon Webbe from Blue.

Simon blew the judges away with a high octane dance to Good Golly Miss Molly but was humble enough to credit the other dancers and their expertise, saying he was disappointed with his own performance on the night.

It was Mark Wright who was especially disappointed on the night though.

Hitting the stage with charisma and confidence, Essex boy Mark delivered a memorable performance but was immediately slammed by the judges for being 'over confident.'

Their advice for next week was to tone down his moves and calm down.

Cocky: Mark Wright was disappointed to hear that the judges didn't like his performance for Strictly

Gregg Wallace and Mrs Brown's boys actress Jennifer Gibney both sat at the bottom of the leaderboard with scores of 18, perched next to radio DJ Scott Mills who landed in the bottom on Friday night's show.

According to Craig, Gregg's performance was sub-zero but Darcey, meanwhile, said she saw his bottom stick out and said she weirdly liked it.

The ballet dancer even got a little bit giggly when admiring his work and telling him she liked him without his glasses.

Weirdly liked it: Darcey went a little bit pink over dancer Gregg Wallace, whose dance she actually quite liked

Another couple who made onlookers a little hot under the collar were rumoured lovers Thom Evans and Iveta Lukosiute.

Having been reported to be secretly dating outside the show, Thom and Iveta ignited the passion with their romantic waltz.

So into their dance, Claudia Winkleman said she wanted Thom to kiss Iveta on the last move but Thom said he had to have some build up, before Claudia quipped again that she wanted to be bridesmaid.

New show host Claudia dressed in a black sparkling floor-skimmer. She preened her shiny black tresses with a fringe in front.

Tess Daly co-ordinated with her presenting partner, offsetting a black bodice with a red skirt.

The pair were equally enamoured by the romance developing between the pair.

The two female presenters were rightly distracted throughout wildlife expert Steve Backshall's performance, but not because of his dancing, because of his bulging biceps in a star-spangled muscle vest.

Naturally, Steve tangoed to Born To Be Wild as he threw dance partner Olla Jordan around the dance flower in his star-spangled muscle vest, which earned him a high score of 26.

BBC actress Sunetra Sarker was also surprise success, when she gave a ‘firecracker tango’ with the judges saying that they were looking forward to seeing her next week.

With Sunetra taking 24 points, the leader board finished on Saturday night's show was Frankie with 30 at the top and the previous evening's leader Jake coming a close second with 28.

TV presenter Caroline Flack was also closely following them after wowing the judges on Friday night.
