SPOILER ALERT: Lolo Jones remains gracious in defeat as world-class athlete becomes first contestant voted off DWTS

World-class athlete Lolo Jones stumbled at the starting line on Dancing With The Stars and was the first contestant to be voted off the show.

Lolo, who lost her timing performing the cha-cha with partner Keo Motsepe on Monday's live premiere, did not appear surprised to learn she was going home on Tuesday night's show.

The 32-year-old sportswoman who has competed in both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, was gracious in defeat.

Early exit: Lolo Jones was the first celebrity to be eliminated from Dancing With The Stars on Tuesday night

She was kicked off after finding herself in the bottom two alongside fashion designer Betsey Johnson, who struggled with a prop during her routine.

'I know Betsey had the malfunction with the boa thing and that was a disadvantage for her,' she told the hosts and judges.

'Honestly, that was just steps on my part, so I'm glad she's staying. She deserves to stay. Everybody here did a good job,' Lolo said.

Tough loss: The world-class athlete showed her good sportsmanship and was gracious in defeat

Lolo, who feared she would struggle to be ‘sexy' on the show because she does not believe in sex before marriage, was crestfallen after her performance on Monday night.

Cameras caught the American hurdler telling new professional dancer Keo 'this is not where I want to be at' after scoring a lowly 22 out of 40 for her routine.

She described it as 'awful' and said she had been thrown out of time when her mobile phone prop did not make the noise she had expected.

Hugging it out: Lolo and Keo embraced after they were eliminated from the show

Sheer delight: Julianne Hough wore a revealing black outfit for the results show

Lolo found herself in jeopardy on Tuesday alongside Betsey, actress Lea Thompson and race car driver Michael Waltrip.

Lea, who is best known for starring in the Back To The Future movies, was a surprise contender for elimination after scoring 32 out of 40 for her foxtrot and looked relieved to learn she was safe.

Viewers were left wondering what underwear her partner Artem Chigvintsev will choose for next week's show after cameras caught him telling Lea, 'I wore purple underwear from Calvin Klein' on Monday night.

Still alive: Sadie Robertson and Mark Ballas were thrilled to advance

Fashion: Betsey looked concerned as she landed in the bottom two

Michael, who was described by Bruno Tonioli as a 'go kart trying to keep up with a Ferrari' following his cha-cha, hugged partner Emma Slater when hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews told him he would also be back next week.

And Betsey, 72, looked grateful for her viewer votes after getting caught in a feather boa prop during her cha-cha with Tony Dovolani and receiving the lowest score of the night.

Microphones picked up the moment Tony shouted 'stop, stop, stop' when the designer got tangled in feathers before quickly cartwheeling her way to the splits at the end of her routine.

Moving on: Emma Slater and Michael Waltrip learned they would be back next week

He was also heard blaming a stagehand for the slip-up and said the boas had been moved from where he left them.

Fresh Prince Of Bel Air star Alfonso Ribeiro was – unsurprisingly – voted through to the next round of the show after being awarded the highest score of the night for his jive with partner Witney Carson.

Duck Dynasty star Sadie Robertson, who was seen praying with her parents backstage before Monday night's show, also impressed and was kept safe by viewer votes following her cha-cha with Mark Ballas.

Happy couple: Allison Holker and Jonathan Bennett will be back for more

Fan favourites: Korie Robertson and her Duck Dynasty star husband Willie posed for photos with fans while supporting teenage daughter Sadie

Her father Willie quipped: 'Sadie did me proud. I always wondered if she saw me dancing around the house. I really think she did. I swear they were some of my moves.'

Fellow judge favourites Randy Couture, Bethany Mota and Jonathan Bennett – who is appearing on Dancing With The Stars to honour his late father – looked relieved to find out they had progressed past week one.

Janel Parrish, who had been disappointed with her scores on Monday night, appeared delighted to have made it through to the next round, hugging partner Val Chmerkovskiy.

Reason to celebrate: Tommy Chong and partner Peta Murgatroyd

High anxiety: Jonathan Bennett looked anxious while waiting to hear if he'd be back with partner Allison Holker

The Pretty Little Liars star also has the support of Rumer Willis, who told cameras: 'Janel's got no competition. I think she's got this in the bag.'

Antonio Sabato Jr., who was told to work on his footwork, and Tavis Smiley, who received praise for stepping out of his comfort zone, also breathed a sigh of relief when told they had lived to dance another day.

And even laidback Tommy Chong, who entertained with his routine to Drop It Like It's Hot, grinned when the hosts told him he was safe.

Good news: Karina Smirnoff and Randy Couture were excited to learn they were advancing

His dance partner Peta Murgatroyd had been heard saying she wanted to 'go all the way' with the 76-year-old, before quickly correcting herself.

'That sounds very sexual, I didn't mean it like that,' she laughed.

The studio audience were entertained with a musical performance from Smokey Robinson and Aloe Blacc, who performed their rendition of Temptations classic My Girl.

And Derek Hough was left red-faced when the show aired his original promo tape from 2006, showing the five-time winner looking clean-shaven with slicked back hair.

The remaining contestants will perform again on Monday night.
