She’s an ethereal ice-skating waif and he’s a burly Russian muscleman but their ‘chemistry’ was undeniable from the start.

After ten weeks of heavy competition Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy took the Dancing With the Stars mirror ball trophy.

The win came after the magnetic duo scored yet another perfect score for their ‘fusion’ dance which blended the foxtrot and cha cha.

The magic moment: Confetti falls from the ceiling and Meryl Davis is crowed the winner of Dancing With The Stars on Tuesday

The dynamic duo: Maksim had never taken home the trophy in all his years on the show

After winning the trophy the 27-year-old took to Twitter and said: 'Thank you all for the incredible support.... I'm completely overwhelmed. @MaksimC and I have been so fortunate to share this journey w/ you!'

‘The best part of this whole season was you two,’ gushed judge Carrie Ann Inaba, who cried at their performance last night and said she ‘hopes they get married’.

British judge Len Goodman was equally ecstatic: ‘This might be my last season, and if it is, I couldn't wish for a better dance to watch to finish up with,’ he said.

Their victory left Paralympic snowboarder Amy Purdy and Derek Hough in second place with Full House actress Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas in third.

Winner: Meryl was hoisted up on shoulders in the excitement of the finale

Partners: Meryl and Maksim didn't shy away from getting close during their dances

Candace had scored 78 out of 90 in total, gaining 27 for their final quickstep/samba fusion to Sir Duke.

‘I can’t believe I even made it here,’ she sniffed.

Amy had a 89 total with a perfect 30 score for her final Argentine tango and a cha cha combo.

‘It's sad, but it's amazing the amount of memories we have here,’ wept the sports woman with Derek backstage.

High kicks: She showed off one of her signature moves

Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who has never won before, was thrilled: ‘It means so much. To do it with Meryl is a dream come true. There's a reason it didn't happen before - because it was meant to happen with this one,’ said the brawny dancer who has visibly softened since working with the petite brunette.

‘I want to ravage her and have ice-skating, big mean Russian babies and call them Boris and Oleg,’ he laughed backstage.

‘Their nicknames would be bear…for both of them,’ he added.

High five: The couple had been labeled the team to beat

The winners: Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy won season 18 of Dancing With The Stars on Tuesday

When Meryl was asked if a romance might brew with Maks after the show she giggled and coyly said: ‘I can’t talk about that’.

The ice-skating champion had earlier performed a graceful piece in peach chiffon with her long-time Olympic partner and childhood best friend Charlie White.

The performances were part of a glitzy two-hour finale with live music and spandex-a-plenty.

Almost: Amy and Derek received a total score of 89 on their three finale dances

Second place: Paralympic snowboarder Amy Purdy and Derek Hough came close to grabbing the mirrorball trophy

The night opened with eliminated contestants James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd repeating their ‘post apocalyptic’ urban freestyle from last night.

The dance had been requested by viewers via twitter vote.

The couple later repeated their glittery freestyle to Michael Jackson's posthumously released track Love Never Felt So Good.

Uproar: Fans of Peta and James complained that glitches with Facebook voting caused the couple to be eliminated but an ABC rep refuted those claims

According to TMZ, fans of James and Peta have blasted the show over Facebook voting, claiming glitches caused votes for the eliminated couple to be counted towards Meryl and Maxim instead.

But a rep for ABC has refuted those claims and assured that all votes were counted correctly, reported the website.

Full House: The judges had said that Candace was 'the surprise of the season'

Eliminated: Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas landed in third place after battling injuries earlier this week

Some Latin flair was demonstrated with in the Team dance to Ricky Martin's Livin' La Vida Loca.

Australian Rapper Iggy Azalea then dropped the f-bomb while experiencing some major technical difficulties.  The 23-year-old Glory star was performing a prom-themed rendition of her hit Fancy with Charli XCX when she stopped at midway to rip out her earpiece.

She was hardly two bars into the track when the issue became apparent.

Making the rounds: Ariana Grande performed on the finale fresh from performing at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday

After sounding staccato and disjointed for her first few lines she stopped dead and frowned on stage.

‘I’m so sorry…but there’s something wrong with my ear,’ she said, with a worried look on her face. As the music continued she tried again to rap but resorted to pulling out her earpiece and dropping it discretely on the floor.

The track continued but the Sydney-born hip-hop girl didn’t return for her scheduled performance of Problem with Ariana Grande.

Showing their moves: Derek and Amy were a close second in the battle for the trophy

The best: They received a perfect total score of 90 on their three finale number

‘I thought she said there was something wrong with her ear but it looked like a very good-looking ear to me,’ joked the host Tom Bergaron afterwards.

Ariana Grande, a 20-year-old former Nickelodeon star, stole the show with her mega-hit, pulling off some complex moves in killer black heals.

Drew Carey and Cheryl Burke later returned for Buddy Holly style jive while one of the ballroom’s ‘biggest personalities’ NeNe Leakes boogied in feathers with a team of backups.

She's back: Season 17 winner Amber Riley made a triumphant return in a gold number

Wonder Years actress Danica McKellar also returned to her favorite Disney dance Be Our Guest.

Teen Aussie heartthrob Cody Simpson performed his cheerful hit Surfboard while showing off his newly acquired dance skills.

The 17-year-old then reunited with his partner Witney Carson who was clad in a bejeweled one-piece.

Lending support: Diana Nyad, Danica McKellar and Drew Carey all returned for the big finale

Great time: Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews sported huge grins

Charlie White and Sharna Burgess also revisited their jolly and quaint Mary Poppins routine from earlier in the season.

Amber Riley, the previous DWTS champ then used her formidable pipes while busting out some moves with a troupe.

Jar of Hearts singer Christina Perri also performed her single Human before the contestants did their final dances.
