James Maslow inducted into 'sexy hall of fame' for showing off his six-pack abs on Dancing With The Stars as first two couples are eliminated

Pop star James Maslow has already been called the ‘eye candy’ of the latest season of Dancing With The Stars.

Now the Big Time Rush star has proven he is more than happy to use his sex appeal to stay in the show - showing off his immaculate six-pack abs to maximum effect.

On the night that former hockey pro Sean Avery and swimmer Diana Nyad became the first contestants eliminated, James initial joked that he and pro dance partner Peta Murgatroyd could dance naked to make sure they stay in the running.

Giving it their all: James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd danced the Salsa on Dancing With The Stars

And while they did not go that far, James and Peta - a potential couple who had dated before the show - showed plenty of flesh, with Peta in a tiny white bra and panties and James letting his body show through an unbuttoned white shirt.

When joking about being naked, James said he expected everyone to still ‘focus on the great technique’ - something the judges failed to do.

‘Daaayum!’ Carrie Ann Inaba gushed excitedly, giving James a nine.’I am so glad you chose the Salsa - you knew what you were doing when you made that choice.’

Heartthrob: The pop star displayed his six-pack abs

Hot number: The duo turned up the heart for their performance

She happily admitted that her thoughts during his performance were completely on his sexiness, not his dancing.

‘To me there’s a “sexy hall of fame” of all the Dancing With The stars contestants in the past, and it includes Mario Lopez, Corbin Bleu, and it also includes Gilles Marini,’ she said. ‘With that dance, to me, you just joined that Hall of Fame.’

Bruno Tonioli seemed equally excited by the sight of James’s smooth chest and abs showing though his unbuttoned shirt.

Inducted: The judges told the hunk his abs had garnered him a slot in the 'sexy hall of fame' on DWTS

‘More of that, please!’ he said. ‘I have to say James you’ve come out of your shell - and you’ve got the abs to prove it.’

And new co-host Erin Andrews joined in the admiration, insisting it was good enough reason for viewers to cast their votes and keep him in the show, with his votes of Carrie Ann’s 9 and two 8s from the other judges seemingly making it a safe bet.

Pointing at him still with his shirt undone, Erin turned back to the camera and said: ‘America, vote for this. Please.’

Racy: The duo previous dated and the sparks were flying

James had been open with his plan to use his sex appeal when Petra reminded him in rehearsals that Len Goodman had dubbed him the ‘eye candy’ of the season.

‘I think the best way to do that is to take that criticism and perhaps wear less clothing for our Salsa dance,’ James told his partner.

‘But still expect the audience to focus on the great technique, because even though I don’t have a shirt on, perhaps no pants - we might just do it full nude - I want the audience to focus on the technique,’ he joked.

Twirling: The pair performed some big moves

’It’s just a suggestion, whatever you think is appropriate.’

After his performance, he also teased viewers that there could be more to come. Asked what other tricks they had coming, James said: ‘We’ve got a couple, so if you keep us on we’ll show you.’

While James’s abs were the talking point of the second week’s dances, it was the threat of another potentially dramatic episode that could prove a later highlight.

Olympic medal winning snowboarder Amy Purdy, dancing with two prosthetic legs, warned everyone that during high speed routines it is possible her legs could come undone - and fly across the dance floor.

Gone: Sean Avery was eliminated in the first round of cuts

‘It’s a pretty funny thought to think that my legs could potentially fly off when I’m dancing,’ she said. ‘There is the potential - let’s hope it doesn’t happen.’

After her acrobatic swing dance with Derek Hough, host Tom Bergeron, who stays right by the side of the stage, admitted her earlier warning got to him.

‘I’m usually relaxed on live TV - I wasn’t so relaxed for a while,’ Tom admitted of his fear of flying legs.

Her performance got all 8s, with Len calling her ‘amazing’, Bruno ‘a knockout’ and Carrie ann saying her performance was ‘mind boggling’.

Not a good night: Karina Smirnoff did not look pleased with the results

Dance pro Derek also made it clear how powerfully her performances are touching him.

‘Words can’t describe - this woman’s incredible,’ he said. ‘Every day I’m reminded what we are all capable of doing.

‘I love what she says. She says it’s not what you have or don’t have - it’s what you give. And she gives it all.’

By far the luckiest man of the night was Billy Dee William, best known as Lando Calrissian in the early Star Wars movies.

Good sports: The duo were gracious as they exited

Despite being the bottom of the leader’s board from judges’ votes, viewers helped get him through despite contestants being surprised by a double elimination.

And then he had an added surprise for his Tango as his partner Emma Slater brought out two more female dancers to join them.

‘A foursome!’ he immediately quipped, and asked how it felt after his dance said: ‘It was unbelievable. It was fantastic. It was the story of my life!’

Getting the axe: Diana Nyad and Henry Byalikov were the other couple to be eliminated

While he yet again got the lowest score of the night with all 5s, everyone concentrated on his luck having the ladies with him.

‘I think there’s a lot of men your age right now who are very envious of you!,’ Carrie Ann told him.

‘You’re handling those three women like the superstar you are.

And after Bruno said he was going for a ‘stylized, minimalist approach’ to his routine, the judge added:

Look of surprise: The duo performed a high energy number

‘Which with three beauties fighting like that over you, so would I.’

After Bruno said he was ‘going to strike lucky anyway’, host Tom Bergeron quipped: ‘I think for you it would be a long wait, Bruno.’

Not so lucky were Sean Avery and Diana Nyad, the first two contestants sent home.

‘For nine years I’ve wanted to do this show - it’s spectacular, the spirit of it,’ Diana said proudly after being the first eliminated with the lowest combined score of judges’ and viewers’ votes.

Having fun: The duo appeared to enjoy themselves on the show

‘Everyone since Neanderthal days has danced. It’s joy, it’s freedom.’

Turning to her pro partner Henry Byalikov, she said: ‘I only wish that this superlative, handsome young man that I’ve locked my body with now for three weeks - he’s elegant and he’s brilliant and I wish I could have given him at least a couple more weeks.’

Meanwhile Sean - known as the bad boy of ice hockey - was teased for how he kept smiling, getting eliminated as he finally seemed to be enjoying himself with his partner Karina Smirnoff.

‘I made a new friend in Karina, I made some money for an amazing charity - Friends In Need - and I got out of the cold winter of New York,’ Sean said after getting sent home.

‘So it’s been a good month.’

Taking him by force: Meryl Davis dragged Maksim Chmerkovskiy

As the competition got more intense for the dancers, there was also an appearance by the man that two of the contestants previously fought over - actor Jeremy Miller.

On the opening night of the season, Full House star Candace Cameron Bure admitted James had once dumped her for Wonder Years actress Danica McKellar.

Jeremy did not get drawn into exactly what happened then - and also remained diplomatic when asked which of his two famous exes he was supporting on the show.

‘It’s gotta be both of them - they both did so fabulous last week, honestly there’s no way I could pick,’ he said, before admitting: ‘Besides, they’d kill me.’

In bliss: After her performance Meryl appeared to be ecstatic

But Danica got the one-up on the dance floor, getting all 8s for her Samba compared to the 7s her former love rival got for her Rumba.

But her pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy - celebrating his birthday - still seemed disappointed as he was gunning for at least one 9.

After their performance, Danica then let on to buying a far-from-sexy gift for Val on his birthday - a foam roller to help stretch out his muscles.

‘She’s the gift that keeps on giving,’ Val said diplomatically. ‘Every day’s a gift with her.’
Candace, meanwhile, made it clear she would not let sex appeal rule her routines - and even stopped partner Mark Ballas from his plan to dance without a shirt.

Giving it their all: NeNe Leakes and Tony Dovolani went all out for their dance

‘I’m a Christian - my life revolves around my relationship with Jesus Christ,’ Candace said. ‘So with the overall tone of the dance, with the costumes, I’m not going to take a back seat - my voice will definitely be heard.’

But after her performance, Candace stressed that her words should not be taken as meaning she is not sexual.

‘I’ve been married for 18 years, I am a sexual woman,’ she said. ‘But I wanna reserve certain things for my husband.’

Perhaps the most unexpected dance move came from Australian pop star Cody Simpson who suddenly did a moonwalk in the middle of his very formal Tango.

Saved: The reality star was not eliminated

‘Anyone who can fit a moonwalk into a Tango gets my respect,’ Len told him. ‘Well done.’

Bruno, meanwhile, told the teen pop star that he has a ‘hypnotic quality’, claiming: ‘It’s like watching Edward in Twilight.’

He told him: ‘I loved the moonwalk - getting in an out of that I don’t know how you did it. I really liked what I saw.’

Cody, who got two 7s and an 8, also had a sweet reason for picking a Tango for his dance that night.

‘I saw a video of my parents dancing the Tango at their wedding, and I thought, Why not make them proud, y’know?’ he told Erin at the end of his performance with pro partner  Witney Carson.

The first partners to be told they were safe - and first to perform - were Drew Carey and Cheryl Burke, who performed a jive.

Not going anywhere: Amy Purdy and Derek Hough embraced as they continued forward in the competition

‘I tell you, if entertainment was judo you’re a black belt,’ Len told him. ‘There was so much to watch.’

Getting all 7s, Drew admitted that his experience doing both stand up comedy and The Price Is Right giving him a huge advantage in dealing with nerves.

‘I’m only comfortable when I’m in front of a bi group of people,’ he said, having earlier explained:

‘Once the crowd’s there and the show’s there, I’m totally able to relax - I’m in my element. I’m used to that feeling of being the the enter of everybody screaming and giving me their attention.’

Ice dancer Meryl Davis, meanwhile, pushed pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy to his limits - with him admitting he was nervous of their acrobatic flips for their wing routine.

Man of the hour: Billy Dee Williams embraced his female dancers

‘I’m so much bigger than Meryl, so I’m taking advantage of our size difference and throwing her around,’ he smiled after a few more rehearsals. ‘But I’m way too old for this.’

‘What’s so great is you have Maks working his butt off!’ Carrie Ann joked after their routine, which got two 8s and a 9. ‘I think you really shined in this routine.’

But Maks was not happy when Carrie Ann and Bruno suggested their timing was off - and after Len gave them a 9, cheekily quipped: ‘The important one gave us a nine.’

Meryl’s partner on ice, Charlie White, had good reason to be mad at Len, however, getting only a 7 from him while his fellow judges both gave 9s.

They're safe: Emma Slater could not contain her excitement

‘You looked like Baryshnikov out there - like a wild-haired Baryshnikov,’ Carrie Ann gushed, leading Bergeron to quip: That’s even better than the sexy hall of fame.’

But Len was critical because they broke spat at times when they should still have been joined during the dance, telling him: ‘You broke the rules, you’ve left me nowhere else to go.’

‘Charlie don’t worry, I love you when you’re bad,’ Bruno told him to huge cheers from the audience. ‘And I think all of them agree with me.’

Staying in the competition: Drew Carrey and Cheryl Burke were in a celebratory mood

Reality TV star NeNe Leakes, meanwhile, said her husband Greg chose the jive for her to dance - and once she realized how hard it was she joked: ‘We’re getting a divorce.’

But she rushed up to give him a kiss after her performance. ‘I wanted to make my husband proud, and I did,’ she said, getting all 7s and being called ‘so much fun to watch’ by Len.

‘I’m very proud of a 21, trust me,’ she insisted.

As well as voting for performances, fans can also vote for the partnerships they would like to see in a bid to get the pairings of pros and stars switching around.
