Actor Brant Daugherty and his Dancing With The Stars partner Peta Murgatroyd wiped away tears as they were the latest voted off.

Despite special guest judge Cher telling Brant he had special 'star quality', the Pretty Little Liars star was told he had danced his last dance on the hit talent show.

And he could not hide his emotion as he left - with his dance pro, Kiwi Peta Murgatroyd, also wiping away tears at being the lowest scoring partnership of the seven who had remained.

Cher-ly not: Brant Daugherty was kicked off Dancing With The Stars after being lathered with praise on Monday

Doh: The singing legend had earlier said the actor oozed 'star quality' after his ballroom performance

'I've learned something that I never thought I'd be able to learn in my life,' Brant said, his voice cracking with emotion after he was told he was going home instead of Jack Osbourne, the last two stars announced.

'I learned a lot about myself, and I'm just very, very grateful for the opportunity.'

As Peta failed to hold back tears, she said: 'He's just an amazing guy and I just had the best time this season.'

Looking Brant straight in his tear-filled eyes, she said: 'Thank you so much for making every day a pleasure.'

Ten-se finale: But Jack Osbourne's one perfect score seemed to help edge the standoff

Nobody does it Peta: Brant will certainly miss getting to grips with shapely Murgatroyd

Taking his chance: And he seemed to be making the most of his final hug after they were booted off the show

His dismissal came after a seemingly great night in which he got all 9s from the judges for his foxtrot to Cher's The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss).

Cher said that as a judge she was looking for 'the star quality, the thing that you can't put your finger on', telling Brant: 'It's the thing - like the smile that you did - that special thing.'

'It's true, you have star quality,' Carrie Ann agreed. 'I think out of everybody here you have the most potential.'

But she had also warned him he needed to 'finesse' his moves, and Bruno agreed. 'You have a lot to offer, but she is right. Refine it. It's brilliant what you do - but you can be even better.'

As well as being a special guest judge, the whole night's show was 'Cher Night' - with the pop superstar performing twice and all the dances of the night being to her songs.

Surrounded: A host of dancers surrounded Cher as she performed her first hit of the night

That's more like it: The singer certainly looked better than during her infamous spot on The Voice

And she was not the only superstar there, with Jennifer Lopez cheering on from the audience alongside boyfriend Casper Smart.

Cher started the evening in a short zigzag patterned dress to perform her mega-hit 'Believe'. And as transgender son Chaz Bono watched on, she later came out in a crazy black feather hat and shredded black skirt to perform I Hope You Find It.

The stars admitted they were intimidated, with Corbin Bleu calling her a 'god' and comedian Bill Engvall saying she was always 'one of my fantasy girls'.

'Cher, my biggest fear was that I was going to meet you tonight and go, "Hi, my name is Oh-my-God-there's-Cher!",' he later admitted to her.

Jack Osbourne, meanwhile, called her 'a legend' and admitted: 'I'm not sure if I'm going to be nervous - or just terrified.'

Cher also happily poked fun at her diva-like reputation. When host Tom Bergeron told her she could do anything she wanted - even order pizza - she quipped: 'As everyone knows, I don't know how to call out for pizza.'

Indian summer: The ageing singer seemed to enjoy wearing this ridiculous headdress as she performed again

Stringing her along: A violinist played in the background as the old warhorse warbled away

Caught in a clap: Former contestant Chaz Bono certainly seemed to enjoy watching his mother perform

As well as their individual dances, the couples had a dance-off to potentially win an extra three points - with Jack Osbourne winning his three round, points that may well have saved him.

The only partners not involved were Glee star Amber Riley and her dance pro, Derek Hough, who as the highest scorers of the night were automatically safe.

Their highest score with two 9s and the only 10 of the night was all the more amazing given the fact Amber had been in hospital that week with torn tendons in her knee.

'This is the kind of injury that could knock us out of the competition,' Derek had warned, bringing in another dancer so that Amber could watch in rehearsals rather than push her injury too much.

But after their rumba to Turn Back Time - in which Derek, dressed as a sailor, had his shirt ripped off right at the beginning - had Cher thrilled at the sexiness.

'I loved it, I just thought it was fabulous - you owned it, you brought it, you got a t-shirt, you got it,' she gushed.

Hello sailor: Derek Hough bared his oiled chest after partner Amber Riley pulled off his shirt

Standing to attention: And many of the viewers will have been too when they saw Derek topless

What knee problem: Amber seemed to suddenly perk up once she saw her partner's oiled torso

'I'm telling you, that's a girl on top,' judge Bruno Tonioli added cheekily. 'She knows what she wants and she gets it. You were the one selling it - and I bought it, darling.'

Carrie Ann Inaba, however, said she 'thought it was not your best dance'. 'I thought you were sitting back just an inch - you gave a lot, but I think there could be more.'

Behind Amber, two other stars tied in second place for the night with Brant and Peta with all 9s - Corbin Bleu and Jack, both of whom also won their rounds in the dance-offs for extra points.

Loving it: Judge Bruno Tonioli was practically foaming at the mouth as he complemented Derek's form

Embarrassed: Bashful Derek tried to cover up after he was lathered with praise by the flamboyant pundit

Corbin had feared for the week as a production emergency on an anti-bullying film he is making meant he missed the initial rehearsals - and was constantly interrupted during the remaining ones.

But he admitted he was 'excited to dance in front of Cher' - and the star went on to call his Tango 'amazing'.

'I've just seen a movie that was all about the tango and it was beautiful - and you were, too,' she added.

Jack, meanwhile, admitted it added 'a little extra stress' performing to a Cher song in front of her, admitting: 'I've been in places with my dad when people have performed his songs and messed it up and it's p***ed him off.'

He added: 'The way I look at it, if we do a really bad job it could really bum her out.'

His dance pro Cheryl Burke also had good reason to want to impress the star - she was named after her.

The karate kid: It appeared Jack Osbourne's partner would be down for the count after this move

What a pro: But Cheryl Burke soon bounced back and was duly wrestled around the floor by the reality star

'My mum named me after Cher because she thought she was awesome and thought I was kind of awesome too,' she said.

Jack - who admitted he 'thought this [show] was going to be the cheesiest experience of my life' but now loved it - got some extra special p[raise from Cher for his dance to her The Beat Goes On.
'I thought you looked like a pimp! A Tango dancing pimp,' she told him, with him proudly replying: 'Thank you very much Cher - I will take that!'

'She's got it right, because that's what Tango's all about - the pimp and the hooker,' Bruno added. 'That was a proper, classic Tango.'

Joining the others in giving him a 9, Carrie Ann said: 'You are so confident, and what a difference it ha made! You are smooth, in control - everything looks refined when you did it. You're just like a god out there!'

He got equally high praise for his disco dance to Song For The Lonely in his dance off, with Bruno telling him: 'Jack you turned disco to dirty dancing, you devil. All the things you did to Cheryl!'

Manhandled: And he was not finished yet as he showed off some unconventional spins

What a Carrie Ann: Inaba was beside herself as she tried to give a critique of the memorable routine

After them, two other stars, Leah Rimini and Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, tied for the next place with two 8s and a 9 - though Leah ended up on top with an extra three for winning the remaining dance off.
She had also been confident she would do well with Cher judging in place of Len Goodman.

'She's an artist, so I'm hoping and assuming that she's going to look at the whole picture an the artistry of it, as opposed to, y'know, 'I wish you would have done that lift better',' she said in rehearsals.

She was proven right, with the other two judges telling her her timing was off - but Cher being won over by her basing her Waltz to I Got You Babe on the day Cher met former husband Sonny Bono in a coffee shop.

'I was just enthralled that you could interpret what Sonny and I went through that day at that coffee shop,' she said.

Princess Leah: Rimini proved to be surprisingly graceful as she spun around the dancefloor this week

Old pals act: And Cher duly rewarded her with some effusive praised once she had finished

'That was enough for me. It was beautiful, and that look in your eyes - it was very sweet - and I just thought it was great.'

Elizabeth Berkley Lauren also got emotional - but in telling Cher how great she was.

'I want to thank you as a woman for showing other women you can create your own set of rules, and that resiliency is a powerful thing,' Elizabeth told Cher, her voice cracking with emotion. 'Thank you.'

Elizabeth was helped by partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy dancing shirtless and her own outfit, a revealing skin-tight bodysuit - but not helped by her decision to change the song they would dance to halfway through rehearsals.

But she insisted he had to pick the song Bang Bang when she knew it was available, explaining: 'It's been a favorite song of mine for a long time. I just thought how could I pass up this opportunity to do a jazz dance to Cher's Bang Bang?'

She got high praise from Cher - though some of it blanked out by censors.

'I thought it was great, and I thought it was rough - and I liked the rough part of it,' she said, with her further comments on the subject blocked.

Graceful: Valentin Chmerkovskiy made the most of dancing with his flexible friend Elizabeth Berkley Lauren

Strong performance: The smug pair were sure they were going to get rewarded with high marks

The judges loved it - even though his timing was clearly off.

Don't look now: But funnyman Bill Engvall was about to take to the dancefloor

Out of step: But the comedian did not seem to care as he plodded his way through another performance

Flung around like a ragdoll: The strand-up star had previously tossed his partner about with gay abandon

Carrie Ann told him: 'You can be off beat - which you were - but if I turned off the music that was an amazing disco! You were off the beat - but I still loved it.'

Bruno also joked: 'Oh my darling, you really got a disco inferno going!

Some times it was more infernal than inferno, but I'm telling you I was just gagging of laughter.'

Cher, meanwhile, told him: 'I was amazed that you could get her up in all those positions! So even though you missed a whole bunch of stuff I still thought it was brilliant.'

Bill had admitted he was ready to go home the previous week when he was up against Snooki, the shock loser - but this week found out he was safe after being asked to read a teleprompter notice, leaving him jumping for joy.

Is that who I think it is: Excited Leah looked a little starstruck when she saw a famous face in the crowd
