Bravery was just not enough: Injured Bill Nye becomes the second contestant to be kicked off Dancing With The Stars after he severely ripped his quadricep

By Daily Mail Reporter

With an amazing robotic dance masking a serious leg injury, it was rightly deemed one of the bravest performances in Dancing With The Stars history.

But bravery was not enough to save The Science Guy Bill Nye from becoming the second person kicked off of the new season.

At the end of his previous week's dance, Nye had stumbled - and severely ripped his tendon in his quadricep, leaving him barely able to walk on it.

Brave to the end: Despite a brave show on the dance floor, Bill Nye became the second contestant of the season to be kicked off Dancing With The Stars

And to make rehearsals even more impossible, his dance pro Tyne Stecklein also 'tweaked' her knee as she 'over-compensated' dueling his fall.

But Bill still insisted on performing this week - even though his doctor warned him: 'Short of a wheelchair I wouldn't recommend any sort of dancing.'

'People don't regret what they do - they regret what they don't do,' Bill philosophized, insisting: 'I'm in it to win it.'

I, Robot: Bill may have been playing a robot, but he was no chicken as he danced with a serious leg injury

One good leg: The Science Guy severely ripped his tendon in his quadricep during last week's show, leaving him barely able to walk on it

The result was a highly imaginative routine were Bill and Tyne dressed as robots as they danced to Daft Punk's Get Lucky - a way to allow Bill to 'exploit the peg leg' and make robotic moves with no leg bending.

The bravery and great imagination sent the audience wild, with a huge standing ovation and everyone chanting 'Bill! Bill! Bill!' at the end.

'To perform with that type of injury takes guts, determination and bravery,' judge Len Goodman told him. 'I'm sure lots of the celebrities, if they had that, would just fold and give up. That shows a lot about the man.'

Dancing on air: Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd were really flying there for a few minutes

Strong finish: Brant and Peta's dance was given favourable reviews by the three judges and they scored an impressive 27 points

Carrie Ann Inaba agreed, saying: 'Tonight we've seen some incredible dancing - and then we've seen some incredible spirit. Tonight what you've done is absolutely outstanding. You had one leg to dance on and a serious injury. You went through it and didn't give up. I was very, very impressed.'

But as impressed as they were, they still had to judge the dancing, giving him a six and two fives, the lowest score along with acting great Valerie Harper - and combined with last week's score enough to send him home.

'Thank you all for keeping me in for this long - these other people really are extraordinary,' Bill said of his rival competitors.

Awkward moments: There were obvious signs of forgetfulness on Valerie Harper's part but she never stopped

Her best shot: Valerie really seemed to be enjoying herself

'I was terrible': As usual, Valerie was her worst critic, but the judges boosted her confidence somewhat by telling her they liked how she just kept going

'There are people here who are working so hard and who are so good - I'm not going to be able to keep up with that. But what breaks my heart is Tyne is not going to be able to stay in. She's fantastic.'

While he had the worst injury, Pretty Little Liars star Brant Daugherty challenged Bill for having the worst week.

'I hurt my foot somehow, I lost my phone - and then I was robbed at gunpoint,' he told dance partner Peta Murgatroyd in rehearsals.

Vampy: Leah Remini gave her dance number her most sultry performance

Rolling around: Leah and Tony's James Bond-inspired number ended with a roll around the dance floor

Impressive: The dance partners garnered a cool 24 points out of 30

'He said I'm going to cock the gun and I'm going to shoot you if you don't give me your bag.

'I had two bags with me - one of them had a t-shirt and my Latin dance shoes, so it was the bag I gave him.

'So the funniest part to me is he committed a felony for my dance shoes.

Ready for the Charleston: Christina Milian and Mark Ballas performed an energetic version of the Charleston

Playing the part: The duo really got into their role-playing with Christina donning a red wig and Mark wearing face paint

Winner: Christina loved it when Bruno said that her performance visually so inventive

'But the foot injury, a sprained ligament, was a bigger problem for him, meaning he could barely rehearse an even bigger nightmare as they had to perform a quickstep. 'We have to do a quick step and I can't step quickly,' he said.

Amazingly, despite the handicap to their rehearsals they were able to score the highest points of the night, getting 9s from each judge with their charleston to a 30s-style jazz version of Beyonce's Crazy Right Now.

'You are a fantastic dancer,' Carrie Ann praised him. 'I cannot believe you were hurt in that routine because I could not see it.'

Fast: Corbin Bleu had to be fast and light on his feet in this rapid quick step

She's so pushy: Karina said that she pushed Corbin really hard this time to get it right

Hectic: Although Len said the dance 'was a bit hectic for me,' the dancing pair scored an impressive 26 points

Meanwhile Bruno Tonioli called it a 'wonderful performance', adding:  'Carry on like this and the nation is going to go crazy for you. You were the perfect matinee idol.'

'It may have been painful to dance, but I tell you it was painless to watch,' Len added.

While landing further down the leader board, King of Queens star Leah Remini had the most

overwhelming judge's response to her sexy rumba to James Bond theme tune to Skyfall.

'I overcooked it': After a shaky beginning, in which Jack Osbourne slid down giant stairs, he seemed to regain his footing

Having seen Leah and Tony jokingly roll around the floor at the end of their routine, Carrie Ann also said: 'You have turned up the steam notch to full steam ahead.'

Despite their James Bond theme, clearly wanted to score more than 007s from the judges - and got all 8s, still placing them in the bottom half of the night's performances despite the high praise.

The stars giving Brant the strongest challenge to Brant in top spot were Christina Milian and High School Musical star Corbin Bleu.

Fiery performance: 'You were on fire tonight,' Bruno told Snooki

Bruno was so impressed with the speed of Corbin's quickstep he gushed: 'This is one for the record books! Incredibly fast - I've never seen anything like it. Maintaining the synchronicity at that speed is almost impossible - and you did it. Incredible.'

But his and Carrie Ann's 9s were weakened when Len gave an 8, calling it 'a bit hectic at times for me' and adding: 'Speed came in and style went out.'

Meanwhile Christina Milian's performance with Mark Ballas was one of the most eye-catching, with Christina in a sexy corset and fishnets while Mark had a clown's face painted on.

'Visually it was so inventive,' Bruno told her. 'Visually inspiring and you performed better than you ever have. Utterly brilliant.'

But despite calling it 'top notch', Len again weakened her standing by giving her an 8 next to his fellow judges' 9s.

Foxy: Elizabeth Berkley and Val Chmerkovskiy performed a languid foxtrot in which she played a flight attendant and he the pilot

Twirl: Val gave Elizabeth a series of twirls that sent her blonde hair flying

Jack Osbourne was also eye-catching as he went 'seventies Hollywood' in giant red-hair fur coat. 'Just total Huggy Bear style. Free love and all that good stuff,' he said, admitting he was terrified of actually dancing.

'You're playing a pimp and I'm your biatch,' his dance partner Cheryl Burke told him during rehearsals. 'Don't get used to that.'

Jack joked about the 'awkward things' she made him do - and at one point in rehearsals telling her: 'OK, NOW I fell like we're making a porno.'

Dramatic: Elizabeth and Val included a dramatic dip in their routine

Chicken soup: Len told Elizabeth that watching her dance was like chicken soup to the eyes

As they started their cha cha cha to Kool & the Gang's Hollywood Swinging, Jack slid down some giant stairs - admitting afterwards that he 'nearly overcooked it' and slid completely off.

Bruno said he loved 'the rock star opening', while Carrie Ann admitted to him: 'It was good - but not your best at all.'

Getting two 7s and an 8 for a respectable 22 after Len praised his 'commitment', Jack got better scores from his family.

Rocker Ozzy said his son did 'really well, I'm really pleased - he did great' while mum Sharon called it 'just quite fabulous really'.

Sister Kelly, in a bright red trouser suit, had the most fun, though, teasing her brother for his bright pink shirt under the fur as she said: 'I just love watching him dance - I just never thought I'd see my brother in fluorescent pink, it's making my dreams come true.'

Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi was equally eye-catching as a Marilyn Monroe-style starlet in a glamorous red dress and short red hair.

High ho silver: Comedian Bill Engvall dressed as the Lone Ranger for his pasodoble with British pro dancer Emma Slater

There she goes: Bill seemed to hurl Emma to the floor

'I feel in my past life I was Marilyn Monroe so I feel like this is good,' she insisted, leading host Tom Bergeron to joke of her partner Sasha Farber: 'This could be scary because Sasha told me in his past life he thinks he was John Kennedy, so let's see how that goes.'

'You were on fire tonight - the difference was unbelievable,' Bruno told her as she finished dancing to Diamonds Are A Girls' Best Friend with a stunning spin across the floor.

Carrie Ann went even further, telling her as she got a nine and two 8s: 'You are a superstar! What you did out there tonight blew me away. You deserve a star on the walk of fame for that incredible performance.'

He's the leader: Bruno complimented Bill for being the leader in the dance

Actress Elizabeth Berkley Lauren had tears in rehearsals as she described working with Valentin Chmerkovskiy.

'This is such a beautiful partnership with Val, because there's so many levels to it - and it's really special,' she said, even though they have just started.

After their performance dressed as a pilot and sexy stewardess to Come Fly With Me, Carrie Ann told them: 'Watching you dance is such a thrill - you've taken your performance to new heights.'

Meanwhile Len told her: 'That was chicken soup to the eyes - delicious, satisfying and does it good just to watch it. Lizzy keep dizzy - you're a contender I'm telling you.'

But it was her speech that got host Tom Bergeron's attention, not her dancing.

'That dance was so good that it overcame the fact that it's freaking me out that you talk in hashtags,' he told her.

When she told him that she 'has just started doing that', he shot back: 'Hashtag stop.'

Fancy footwork: Amber Riley really riled up the audience in a good way as she took to the dance floor with Derek Hough

It was Irish dance pro Tristan MacManus who created one of the other noticeable highlights - dressing as Freddie Mercury to dance alongside Valerie Harper as Grace Kelly.

But the high comedy value was not enough to save the voting on their cha cha cha, getting equal bottom with Bill with two 5s and a 6.

'You got the look absolutely right - but it looks like Freddie and Grace Kelly never met before tonight,' Bruno said. 'You went wrong so many times. You made a lot of mistakes tonight - but you looked great.'

Carrie Ann also told her she 'lost your way throughout the whole dance', but said that she loved the way she shines even when going so wrong.

All the right moves: Amber enjoyed playing the flapper in all her finery

Take that: At one point Amber pulled out an imaginary pistol and fired, and Derek did an amazing back flip

'That is the sign of a star,' she told her. 'You still managed to bring grace to the routine - or what was left of the routine

Comedian Bill Engvall, meanwhile, dressed as the Lone Ranger for his pasodoble with British pro dancer Emma Slater from Tamworth.

At one point in rehearsals Emma spat on the floor, and Bill - after initially registering disgust - joked: 'That's my girl - already turned a British girl into a redneck.'

He was thrilled at getting all 8s, after Carrie Ann told him: 'You nailed the paso! All of your

movements were perfectly in synch. You must have rehearsed the poop out of that routine!'

Balancing act: While the audience seemed to love Amber's shimmy, Bruno and Carrie Ann both said she needs to get the top half in line with the bottom half of her body

Meanwhile Glee star Amber Riley and her partner Derek Hough sent the crowd wild with their charleston to will.i.am's Bang Bang from The Great Gatsby - but had less luck winning over the judges.

Next week previous fan favorite Julianna Hough will be back, but this time to sit-in on the judges' table.
