It's a knockout! Boxing champ Victor Ortiz is given the hook on Dancing With The Stars

By Mike Larkin

PUBLISHED: 06:56, 24 April 2013 | UPDATED: 13:25, 24 April 2013

Almost two years ago he lost his world title after being knocked out by former Dancing With The Stars contestant Floyd Mayweather Jr.

And Victor Ortiz suffered a similar, if less painful, fate after being given the hook on the ballroom show on Tuesday night.

He became the fifth celebrity to be voted off the show, though may feel unfortunate to have lost out to preening peacock Sean Lowe.

Victor you go: Boxer Ortiz was knocked out on Dancing With The Stars on Tuesday night

It's been a Rocky road: But the champ has become firm friends his partner Lindsay Arnold

In this respect he has something over his ring rival, as Floyd was the fourth star to be voted off in season five.

And the former welterweight world champion was gracious in defeat, saying: 'I had a blast.

'I made great friends, including you guys, you beautiful people.

'So at the end of the day it was a heck of an experience and hopefully, these beautiful people will follow me to my next championship bout.

'I'm happy to get this far. I definitely need some dance moves.'

Awaiting his fate: Victor had not looked so tense since the start of his bout with Floyd Mayweather

Lowe blow: Bachelor star Sean pretended he was disappointed his rival had lost out

Looking on the bright side: There was not a black eye in the house as Victor paid tribute to the show

But Bachelor star Lowe should count himself lucky, with extra footage from the previous night revealing head judge Len Goodman was far from impressed with his lacklustre dance moves.

However the leaderboard ultimately proved accurate, as Victor's rumba the previous evening had earned the lowest score with just 18 points.

The pugilist's elimination certainly proved a explosive finale to a show that had been short on surprises beforehand.

Frank Bruno and friends: Honest judge Tonioli joined Len Goodman and Carrie Ann Inaba in applauding Victor

It still beats this: Victor could have used some of his newfound fancy footwork when he got knocked out by fellow DWTS alumni Floyd Mayweather in 2011

In for a treat? Viewers watched a performance from X Factor reject Olly Murs

It started in low key fashion, with X Factor reject Olly Murs the first musical guest, performing his surprise hit Troublemaker.

Unsurprisingly country favourite Kellie Pickler and flexible gymnast Aly Raisman were the first celebrities to discover they were safe.

And while they had been outscored by their rivals, Team Paso ended up reprising their neon bullfighting and toreador-inspired routine, which saw the men strip to the waist while waving around their capes.

It is hardly surprising however, as the show's stalwart female fans were champing at the bit to see NFL star Jacoby Jones and soap favourite Ingo Rademacher showing off their manly physiques.

No surprises here: Kellie Pickler and flexible gymnast Aly Raisman were the first celebrities safely through

Saucy: The chance to see NFL star Jacoby Jones and soap favourite Ingo Rademacher shirtless again helped Team Paso return by popular demand

Just rewards: Zendaya and her Russian beefcake partner Val Chmerkovskiy the learned they were safe

Perennial top scorer Zendaya and her Russian beefcake partner Val Chmerkovskiy, who was still shirtless after performing, were the told they were deemed safe.

However this also meant Bachelor star Sean and his pro Peta Murgatroyd were in jeopardy, and they ended up in the bottom two.

The musical quality of the show then went up a notch thanks to a performance from  will.i.am, who sang his new single, #thatpower.

Slick Willy: A barnstorming performance from will.i.am raised the quality of the show's musical content

No sweat: Wide receiver Jacoby Jones and soap favourite Ingo Rademacher will both return

An arresting development: Bad cop Andy Dick will be back on patrol in next week's thrilling show

And while Victor then discovered his place was under threat, crowd pleasers Ingo Rademacher and Jacoby Jones found out they were coming back for Latin night.

Many would have feared it was going to be curtains for Andy Dick, despite his hilarious cop themed dance with Sharna Burgess as he joined Sean and Victor in the bottom-of-the-pack category, but he then learned he was safe.

And while neither of the pair will have the most sizable of fan clubs, it seems the slugger's less technically impressive performance led to him garnering fewer votes from fans at home.

Spectacular: A fire dancer raised temperatures thanks to his blistering showmanship

Who needs Vegas: The programme's crack troupe of dancers performed some exciting numbers

See you next week: Hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke-Charvet looked relieved yet another evening of light entrainment was finally over

Time to party: Kelly - with extensions still in her hair - and Karina Smirnoff looked excited to be attending a post show dinner party

Hell for leather: Brooke, 41, looked chic and stylish

Ready to rumble: Newly single Victor looked ready to seize his chance to chat up the likes of Peta Murgatroyd
