A Wonderful battle! Country girl Kellie Pickler edges Disney starlet  Zendaya during Dancing With The Star's Stevie Wonder special

By Daily Mail Reporter

PUBLISHED: 06:30, 23 April 2013 | UPDATED: 09:20, 23 April 2013

She's been dubbed the best dancer on the show.

And Disney starlet Zendaya and partner again wowed the judges on Stevie Wonder night on Dancing With The Stars.

However, it was country girl Kellie Pickler who ultimately came out on top thanks to a near perfect dance with Derek Hough.

Stepping up: Kellie Pickler topped the leaderboard after being egged on by Derek Hough on Dancing With The Stars on Monday night

Loving it: Music legend Stevie Wonder seemed to be enjoying the night's proceedings during his special

However, professional dancer Zendaya did reveal she is at a disadvantage, because as well as having to practice her routines the 16-year-old must also squeeze in her homework.

The teen said her teacher parents make sure she doesn't let it slip.

The two-hour ABC show featured the music of Stevie Wonder and opened with him sitting at a keyboard as he sang All I Do - before young American country music star Hunter Hayes joined him on stage and they segued into Stevie's I Ain't Gonna Stand For It.

'It's my joy. I had to be here,' said the blind singer - before making a joke about how he couldn't watch it on TV.

Disney star Zendaya, who reclaimed the top spot on the leaderboard last week with partner Val Chmerkovskiy, getting the first 10s of the season, did a sexy cha cha to Wonder's Do I Do.

'If you don't love Stevie Wonder, there's something wrong with you,' she said.

She annoyed Val in practice by not being able to master some of the techniques.

Hard taskmaster: Val disciplined Zendaya for failing to meet his high standards during practice

Paying off: But the Russian's disciplinarian style paid off as she ended up getting a near perfect score

But by the time it came to perform the teenager - the youngest competitor - had shaken off her nerves and did stunned the crowds in a shimmery black and gold dress.

'You had a standing 'O' [ovation] before you started!' said host Tom Bergeron.

'Ask me one word that sums up great dancing - Zendaya,' said Len. 'It was full of snap, crackle and pop!'

'Gobsmacking, gorgeous!' said Bruno Tonioli. 'You can cha cha me any time you want!'

Carrie Ann Inaba added: 'You blew me away. I feel sorry for everyone who has to come after you.'

Frank Bruno: Heavyweight judge Tonioli told the Disney girl her routine had been a knockout

Carrie Ann gave them 10, while Len gave them just nine. But Bruno also gave them 10 for a total of 29 points out of 30.

Funnyman Andy Dick - who almost got the boot last week - dressed up as an old-fashioned postman to perform the samba to Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours with partner Sharna Burgess.

And he vowed to turn it up to 11 in a bid to get better scores.

He opened the tongue-in-cheek routine by delivering a letter to the judges' table before cheekily smooching Sharna and pretending to slap her on the behind.

And while the crowd seemed to love it, the judges weren't so forgiving.

An arresting sight: Bad cop Andy Dick seemed to be having a great time taking Sharna Burgess to task

Silly dance: But he seemed to have second thoughts and ended up doing a Ministry of Funny Walks audition

'It was a personality driven, splendid shamble of a samba,' said Bruno.

Carrie Ann added: 'I had to look back and [see] what dance it was.'

And Len said: 'You give us fun. It wasn't that good technically.'

Andy, who had a lipstick mark on his face, gave co-host Brooke Burke Charvet a rose.

Carrie Ann, Len and Bruno all gave them six points for a total of 18.

Gentle Len: But far from acting like a bear with a sore head Goodman said he enjoyed the performance

Bachelor star Sean Lowe and partner Peta Murgatroyd - who had the best dance of their season last week -  did the samba to I Wish.

'This is going to kill me,' admitted Sean, who had to miss a rehearsal day because of other commitments, leaving Peta angry and frustrated.

Both dressed in blue, they won the crowd over immediately, as Sean showed off his washboard abs with his open shirt, before Peta ripped it off to expose his whole torso.

Tom Bergeron jokingly dubbed it the 'spray-tan samba'.

'That was the most bounce I've seen in a while,' said Carrie Ann, who told him to pay more attention to the music.

The dance of Narcissus: Bachelor personality Sean Lowe seemed to love showing off his chest

Down to earth: But he was soon to be brought back to reality after being given a tongue lashing from the judges

Len drew boos when he told Sean all he wanted to do was beat Andy Dick.

'It was riddled with mistakes. You have to take your shirt off, all you guys. I don't get it.'

'The women love it!' said Carrie Ann.

Bruno added: 'Look on the bright side. You can always get a job as a stripper.'

Spanked: Head judge Len did not hold back and accused him of only endeavouring to beat Andy Dick

All three judges gave them seven points for a total of 21 points.

Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman and partner Mark Ballas slipped from the top spot last week but hoped their foxtrot to Isn't She Lovely? would propel them back in the lead.

In practice sessions, Aly, 18, who grew up about 20 miles from Boston wore several I Heart Boston T-shirts in tribute to the victims of the marathon terror attack.

'Everything that happened has really affected me,' she said as she struggled to concentrate admitting that she was supposed to have been at the race.

Pep talk: Dance pro Mark Ballas helped Aly Raisman overcome her Boston marathon bombing sadness

Hot to trot: And it paid off in style as she ended up pulling off what the judges labelled a 'foxy foxtrot'

Their old-time routine opened with the pair reading fake newspaper headlines about Stevie Wonder.
'Your bottom stuck out a little bit,' said Len. '[But] it was a real foxy foxtrot.'

'Pretty as a picture,' said Bruno.

Carrie Ann said: 'You brought out your beautiful Bostonian elegance tonight. You're heading towards perfection.'

All three judges gave them nine points each for a total of 27 points.

Praise: Carrie Ann Inaba was effusive in her praise for the Olympic gymnast's medal worthy performance

Soap star Ingo Rademacher - who was celebrating his birthday - was told to improve his technique last week to have any chance of progressing.

He hoped his tango to Uptight (Everything's Alright) with partner Kym Johnson would do that - and take out Andy Dick.

The black-clad couple were all smiles as they twirled around the floor, with Kym showing off her long, toned legs and cleavage in a revealing top.

'You can turn it on when you want to,' said Bruno.

'That was great. When you like a dance, it shows,' said Carrie Ann.

'This is hard to say. Bingo, Ingo!' said Len Goodman.

Hitting the bullseye: Ingo Rademacher finally managed to give a performance that was not painfully average

Giving him a hand: Head judge Len applauded his performance and told him it was 'bingo Ingo'

'My birthday wish is to get through to next week,' Ingo admitted.

And he might just do that, - all three judges gave them eight points each for a total of 24 points, their highest score yet on the show.

Frontrunners country star Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough wanted their quickstep to Part-Time Lover would earn them a 10.

But the pair's nerves were shot and they were seen bickering in practice - as Derek messed up for once.

The couple pretended to be mannequins as they were wheeled on to the stage before the athletic routine.

Practice makes perfect: Kellie loved the fact Derek was making some mistakes during rehearsals

Pickled legs: But they made no mistake when they were on the dance floor and received acclaim

Kellie, with long curly blonde hair, looked stunning in red and looked like she was having a great time with suit-wearing Derek.

k at my little Chia Pet,' joked Carrie Ann, referring to Kellie's voluminous hair.

'Everything about it was perfect - except there was some space.'

'For me, that's the best dance I've seen on season 16,' raved Len Goodman.

'This was sumptuous dancing,' said Bruno.

Carrie gave them nine, while Bruno gave them 10.

But it was Len's score that had them really celebrating.

'From Len, the 10,' he said.

Cheering them on: The titanic trio were overjoyed at the level of excellence the couple displayed

That gave them 29 points in total, putting them neck-and-neck with Zendaya and Val at that point.
'He has to buy me shoes now!' said Kellie, joking that they had a deal if they got a 10.

Boxer Victor Ortiz and partner Lindsay Arnold - who keep ending up in the bottom two - prayed their luck would change when they did the rumba to I Just Called to Say I Love You.

'In boxing I've never moved my hips like that,' said Victor as he tried to find his inner romantic, as he admitted he'd never danced with a woman he'd loved.

'A girl broke my heart,' he explained.

But he did a good job of trying to pretend as the couple, dressed in white, twirled about.

Float like a butterfly? Boxing champ Victor Ortiz was hoping to build on last week's strong performance

Punch drunk: But his leaden footwork and laboured moves meant he was never going to win the title

'I know dance doesn't come easy but you have that fighting spirit,' said Len.

'At times it looked a bit like an airline safety drill,' said Bruno.

Carrie Ann said his hip technique was lacking but liked the sparkle between  him and Lindsay.
'There's such a real chemistry,' she said.

'I actually love Lindsay,' Victor told Brooke after the dance. 'I just said it. Uh oh.'

'Is that a confession?' she asked.

'She's been trying to get me to say it,' he said, looking flustered.

'Now it's official,' said Brooke.

In love or not, the judges each gave them six points each for a total of 18, leaving them at the bottom of the table again.

Slugging it out: Len may have landed a few low blows but he did praise the boxer's 'fighting spirit'

American football star Jacoby Jones and partner Karina Smirnoff did the quickstep to For Once in My Life.

And Jacoby, who's been criticized for his poor footwork, said he couldn't control his toes.

Their routine saw them dance into the audience, while Jacoby did the splits, before Karina, in a yellow dress, leapt into his arms, to the delight of the crowd.

'You took off like the Indy 500!' said Bruno. 'Your energy is amazing.'

'Your feet are a little funky, but you make up for it,' said Carrie.

Dancing on Smirnoff ice: NFL star Jacoby Jones once again moved well for a big man thanks to Karina's lessons

Enjoying herself: The Russian professional loves being in the grip of the wide receiver

Len Goodman said: 'This was like a Beatles medley. It started 'Please Please Me', by the end I was singing 'Help'.'

'There's Mama,' Tom Bergeron warned Len as Jacoby's mother stood up in the audience and looked at him.

'You did a good job,' Len said.

Carrie Ann and Bruno gave them eight, while Len gave them seven, for a total of 23 points.
Then it was time for the first team dances of the contest.

How much do you love Jacoby Carrie Ann again struggled to hide her infatuation with the beefcake

Team Samba - Aly and Mark, Kellie and Derek, Peta and Sean, and Andy and Sharna - took on Team Paso (Ingo and Kym, Jacoby and Karina, Victor and Lindsay and Val and Zendaya).

While Team Paso were having fun, Team Samba were struggling to decide on a routine, stressing Derek out.

By the final rehearsal, Team Paso was having problems with their choreography.
'I'm having a panic attack,' Val admitted.

Team Paso Doble did a neon bullfighting and toreador-inspired routine to Higher Ground, which saw the men go topless and charge at their female counterparts, while Jacoby did a stunning jump OVER Karina.

Tag team action: Team Paso's antics were likened to an episode of WrestleMania by Bruno

They really were funky: Jolly Jacoby and Ingo joked about their lack of deodorant after the dance

up part was pretty tight,' said Len.

'It was like watching an episode of WrestleMania,' said Bruno.

'Zendaya, you're trying to so hard to be the glue but this is a little bit broken,' said Carrie Ann. 'It was kind of a mess.'

Viewers were urged to use Twitter to pick the team winners as the men flexed their muscles from the balcony.

Carrie Ann and Bruno gave them seven points, while Len awarded them eight, for a total of 22.

Each of the couples in the team gets 22 added to their individual scores.

That's more like it: They were easily outshone by their rivals in Team Samba with their disco routine

But the party really got started when Team Samba did their 70s disco routine to Superstition, with the men donning vintage moustaches and shades and the women in matching mini-dresses and white boots as they danced under a giant mirrorball.

They looked more cohesive, and Bruno said: 'It's like a reunion of Boogie Nights. The girls killed it, so much fun.'

Carrie Ann said: 'It was really fantastic.'

'You came out and had fun. It was a pleasure,' said Bruno.

That's more like it: It was obvious who Len Goodman and his sidekicks preferred during the team dance

Carrie Ann and Bruno gave them eight while Len gave them nine for a total of 25 points, boosting everyone's individual scores.

And it gave an extra special lift to Kellie and Derek, pushing them to the top of the leaderboard ahead of rivals Val and Zendaya.

The night also saw a white-suited Wonder delightedly singing Sir Duke flanked by five young dancing beauties.

And later he sang My Cherie Amour while playing the harpejji, an electric stringed musical instrument.
'It's been so much fun,' he said.
