The judging panel has plummeted in the sexy stakes following the loss of Alesha Dixon

IT’S blood on the dance floor for Strictly Come Dancing stars as BBC chiefs are set to wield the axe on up to half the show’s favourites.

Producers are revamping this year’s professional line-up after fears the judging panel has plummeted in the sexy stakes following the loss of Alesha Dixon, 33, to ITV Britain’s Got Talent.

An insider said: “Since Alesha left they’re worried the new panel won’t get people’s hearts pumping as much as last year, so they are going all-out for the sassiest and raunchiest dancers they can find.

“They want as much drama as possible this year.”

TV bosses have already given the boot to rugby star Gavin Henson’s former partner Katya Virshilas, 28.

And behind the scenes the mood is tense as performers wait to hear their fate.

Our insider told us: “Everyone was shocked when Katya got the boot. They told her she wasn’t as high profile as some of the others.

“She was devastated. It seems there’s as much rivalry between the professionals as there is between the contestants.”

BBC producers have started auditions for new talent and there is no shortage of applicants.

The insider added: “They are so desperate for drama this year and they aren’t holding back with the auditions.

“All the dancers in the previous series had formed this loyal family together but that’s not going to happen this time around.

“I feel sorry for whoever they bring in as replacements because it’s going to be a long and lonely series.”

The tenth series, which is set to air in late September, has not released a full line-up of stars.

But Westlife’s Nicky Byrne, 33, and former criketer Michael Vaughan, 37, have confirmed they will be hitting the floor.
