Britain’s Got Talent in the driving seats as Voice ratings slump
Turnaround ... The Voice judges in famous seats
By JEN BLACKBURN, TV Biz Reporter
BRITAIN’S Got Talent trounced The Voice in the weekend ratings — because the rival BBC show has now ditched their judges’ swivel chairs.Simon Cowell’s ITV1 show bounced back to pull in 10.7 million viewers — 400,000 more than tuned into the singing contest. The turnaround comes a week after the BEEB’S show looked to have sewn up Saturday nights — by boasting a ratings lead over BGT of a million. Cowell’s camp was jubilant at the latest figures, which come just as The Voice abandons its revolving chair gimmick that sees judges swivel round when they hear an act they like. That is because the wannabe singing stars have all now been picked — and the show has moved on to the finals. Last night an insider told how the plunge in ratings mirrored what happened in the US when its version of The Voice was at the same stage. The source said: “In America The Voice’s ratings dipped by 40 per cent when the live shows started. Luckily The Voice in the UK has only lost around ten per cent.

“Now we’re in the live shows the ‘will-they-won’t-they?’ turnaround gimmick is all over. “Viewers loved the theatre of the chairs, the buzzers and the new faces.” Last night fans saw Sir Tom Jones axe his act Sam Buttery. Will.i.am gave Sophie Griffin the chop. Kid cry rap
KIDS minister Sarah Teather has slammed BGT after little Malaki Paul broke down on the show. The nervous nine-year-old cried as he sang Beyonce’s Listen but carried on after his mum and judge Alesha Dixon comforted him. Ms Teather said: “A child’s welfare comes before ratings.”
