X Factor finals 2011: Misha B's fury as ex-junkie mum tries to get back in touch

X FACTOR star Misha Bryan is furious her ex-drug addict mum – who abandoned her as a baby – wants to get back into her life now she has found fame.

A foster carer took her in after her mother Florence abandoned her at home to go on a drug binge. She was then brought up by her aunt Lily.

Misha, 19, has had no contact with Florence for years, even though the pair live just a short drive away from each other in Manchester.

Now, after seeing her daughter on the hit ITV show, Florence, 46, is trying to resume contact.

But soulful Misha, tipped by some to win the series, was appalled when Florence sold an interview this week to a magazine, in which she pleads with the star to get in touch.

“Misha is enraged about this,” said a well-placed source. “She says her mother is evil to behave in this way. Evil is the word she used.

“Her mother was never, ever there for her and now she’s trying to worm her way back in. Misha won’t let her though, absolutely not.”

On last night’s show, viewers saw the singer and her mentor Kelly Rowland having an emotional heart-to-heart about their parents.

Tearful Misha said: “It’s been a roller-coaster of a week. I found out that my birth mum, who left me when I was a baby, wrote a letter to the press saying that she wanted to get back in touch.”

Clearly still emotional following her performance of Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing, she started crying. When host Dermot O’Leary asked what was wrong, she sobbed: “It’s everything.”

Her mum’s criminal record stretches back two decades and includes at least one spell in prison.

She was arrested in May 2000 in Manchester for propositioning a would-be customer for sex while apparently working as a prostitute.

And two years ago she was found guilty of a racially motivated assault on a white policeman trying to defuse a street dispute she was involved in.

She punched the officer in the eye and used his torch to hit him around the head, leaving him with a gash on his face. Florence was sentenced to a 12-month community order.

Florence and Misha’s father split just after she was born and the singer says she does not even know who he is.

Her uncle Walid El Mejri – married to Florence’s sister Barbara – said: “Her mother didn’t want to know about her. But she has suddenly shown up and is only back on the scene and interested now money is involved.

“Misha has seven tickets for each show. Her mother got really angry she hadn’t been invited on, yet her grandma and other relatives were.

“She texted her sister, who brought up Misha, calling her names and swearing, because she hadn’t been invited.”

Walid, of Rhyl, North Wales, told the Sunday Mirror: “It’s obvious her mum is trying to creep her way back in.

“Now she’s seen her on The X Factor, she’s decided she wants to be a mum again. But there is very little relationship between them because Florence has not been a mum to Misha.

“She had a crack addiction and alcohol problems. She’s caused the family all kinds of pain. We’ve had enough of her. She is so selfish”. Misha was taken in as a baby by Jamaican foster-mother Salterne Brown after Florence vanished on what sources say was a three-day drugs binge. Salterne died this summer before Misha’s rise to fame.

Her daughter Sharon, 47, said: “Florence was a smackhead. She wasn’t maternal. My mum did a lot of fostering and knew her family. Florence was always a wrong ’un. Drugs were more important to her than her children. Misha was better off without her.”

Mother-of-five Florence, who claims she has been drug-free for three years, declined to comment.
