They're used to living the high life, eating at fancy restaurants and sipping the finest champagne.

But Freddie Starr was forced to trade in exquisite delicacies to chomp on creepy crawlies for his first I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! task.

The British comedian, 68, put on a brave show for the stomach-churning Bushtucker Trial that saw him come face-to-face with wriggly maggots.

Wish you'd stayed at home? Freddie Starr was forced to eat maggots during his first task on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

Starr took the challenge in his stride, saying: 'I don't blame anyone. It was just one of those things.'

Fellow contestants, including Mark Wright and Antony Cotton, were made to face their fears as they jumped out of a plane.

Starr was exempt for the high-adrenaline activity as he underwent a quadruple heart bypass last year and it was though to be too dangerous.

He also nearly forfeited his place in the eleventh series of the ITV show after being refused insurance amid fears for his health.

Earlier this week, frantic ITV producers were desperately trying to strike last-minute negotiations for Starr to join the rest of the celebrity campers.

While nine of the ten celebrities met up for the first time at a plush private villa on the Australian Gold Coast, Starr was AWOL.

However, he confirmed there was 'no scare' and it was simply 'all down to paperwork'.

Starr exclusively told the Daily Mail he is no longer worried about his health, saying: 'It's all nearly fixed. They've done a good job.

'It's made me not care about death because I nearly died.

'When you come through something like that, you don't worry about little incidental things any more.'

He also said he was hoping to get fit in Oz, joking: 'I've got to lose weight in the jungle.

'I hope I starve myself to death nearly. I want to lose around two and a half to three stone.

'I weigh 56 stone at the moment, so it will be good for me. You automatically lose weight anyway because you're on beans and rice.'

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! starts tomorrow at 9pm on ITV.
