Gary Barlow's bid to reunite X Factor rivals Tulisa and Kelly fails as they 'row' over the table at dinner party

She may have been away from the panel for over a week but it seems Kelly Rowland's break wasn't long enough.

The Destiny's Child singer had only been back in the UK for a few hours when her rift with fellow judge Tulisa Contostavlos was reignited.

The pair were reportedly fighting over the dinner table after Gary Barlow invited them and Louis Walsh over to his house for a three-course meal on Wednesday night.

Following their public feud on the ITV programme, the Take That singer thought it was best for the pair to bury the hatchet ahead of this weekend's live show.

But it seems their rivalry got worse before it got better.

According to a source Kelly and Tulisa had the 'mother of all squabbles' but it did result in them clearing the air.

The foursome dined on lamb stew and chocolate brownies - which had been whipped up by the 40-year-old's chef - and were also joined by Xtra Factor presenters, Olly Murs and Caroline Flack.

Tulisa hadn't seen her fellow female judge since October 23 after they fell out due to Tulisa and Louis accusing Misha B of 'bullying' other acts backstage.

Kelly, 30, then fled to the U.S. following their bust up and missed last weekend due to a sore throat.

Fans will be keen to see the pair together again on Saturday night and see if the tension is still there.

But according to the Daily Star, Gary worked his magic at his home in Burford, Oxon.

Kelly and Tulisa apparently declared themselves 'friends again' and the N-Dubz star later tweeted: 'Thanks 4 a lovely dinner gary! Next stop come dine with me haha x'

The singer told Daybreak presenters this morning that rowing is the last thing they want to be doing on the show.

'We're not too fond of falling out. It's all about the contestants,' he said. 'I don't like us to be seen to be bickering on stage.'

But the topic of conversation at their dinner party soon turned to the sour subject of poor ratings.

X Factor is reported to be second in the TV ratings war falling behind BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

It has even been suggested that the spat between Kelly and Tulisa was all for the cameras, so viewers are eager to see if it will continue in order for the reality show to be back at the top again.

The Daily Star also reported that X Factor boss, Simon Cowell, spoke to the show's hopefuls for the first time yesterday via Skype.

The mogul told the remaining contestants that he had been watching the show and liked what he saw.

'You have got to know what you want and who you are,' he told them. 'This is a tough business. But you must listen to your mentors – they know what they’re doing.'

But the contestants aren't getting a great impression from their female mentors after they attended the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Woman Awards with them last night and witnessed the rift first hand as Kelly and Tulisa weren't photographed together.

Gary arrived at the Radio 1 studios this morning with Kelly but yet again the females were apart as Tulisa was no where in sight.

But the radio station was quick to squash any rumours by tweeting: '@officialTulisa is sick and not with the other #xfactor judges on @BBCR1 this morning...'

Kelly announced on the breakfast show that she will be performing at the Radio 1 Xtra Live event in London next month.

'I loved performing at the first ever 1Xtra Live four years ago and I’m really happy to be headlining the final date of this incredible event,' she told host, Chris Moyles.

'There’s so much amazing talent on the line-up and I’m proud to be part of it.'

The U.S. star also spoke honestly about two of her acts being in the bottom two on last Sunday's show saying that she feels 'partly responsible' for the outcome.
