It was a real Thriller! Celebrities light up the floor in Dancing With The Stars Halloween spectacular

The celebrities all dressed up for tonight's exciting installment of Dancing With The Stars.

And luckily there were no frights in store for fans of the show, with even the worst participants performing well.

Courtney Cox's estranged husband David Arquette kicked off the show with a skillful Cha Cha Cha, and was cheered on by the Friends star.

That looks magic: David Arquette gave a spellbinding performance that impressed the judges on Dancing With The Stars tonight

The Scream star dressed as a magician vampire, and the judges were spellbound by his performance, giving him straight eights.

Head judge Len Goodman said: 'There were lots of tricks and lots of treats. I tell you what, you've turned yourself into a dancer here.

'You needed a bit more rhythm, but overall well done to you.'

Camp choreographer Bruno Tonioli added: 'You've got the prestige, you're a natural at turning tricks.'

Wand-erful: David gave the illusion of being a professional dancer thanks to his light-footed legerdemain

Next up was war hero JR Martinez, who did a Ghostbusters themed tango, earning one nine and two eights,

Bruno praised him, saying: 'Bewitched, conquered and swept away by the ghostly beauty.

'I tell you what, if all ghosts looked like that the Ghostbusters would be out of business.'

Ghostbusting-a-move: Despite his excellent routine JR still ended up being shot with criticism from head judge Len Goodman

He did however say his timing was off a 'couple of times' during the dance.

However Len Goodman was not as impressed, though he still gave him an eight.

He said: 'This was substandard compared to what I expect of you. It's your own fault.

'In the last three weeks you have set such a high expectation of yourself.'

He then criticised him for concentrating so much on the performance that his footwork suffered.

They proton packed a punch: JR managed to bring the movie magic of Ghostbusters to life on the dance floor and excited Bruno

Flatfooted Nancy Grace was the weeks only disappointing performer, falling away from her nine of last week due to a flawed Irish dancing themed jive.

Her dance to The Devil Went Down to Georgia ended up earning her straight sevens.

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba, who dressed as a cat, said: 'Well you have your good weeks and you have your not so good days. Last week was good, this week not so good.

More flatfooted than Flatley: Legendary Irish dancer Michael would not have been pleased at Nancy Grace's attempt

'It kills me because I watch you and you are having the time of your life. But you lost the choreography a few times.'

Len added: 'Certain dances suit you and certain dances don't. For me this wasn't a good dance for you.

'It went wrong early on. You're kicks weren't sharp and you were not on the balls of your feet.'

Balls: Len Goodman said the former attorney's performance would have been better if she had danced on the balls of her feet

Rob Kardashian dressed up as Gomez for a Addams Family styled tango, and did not look bothered by his sister's marriage break-up.

He a high score of nine and two eights, and was delighted with his best result so far.

Len said: 'I thought you did a terrific job, and this is a crucial week.'

Addams site better than before: Rob's routine was inspired by the classic comedy show and landed him his highest score so far

Bruno added: 'You have never been so manly and in control, you were really leading with conviction tonight.'

He then warmed him to keep his trademark Kardashian posterior under control, saying: 'Keep your bum under you it keeps sticking out.

'There is nothing wrong with a bum if you know what to do with it,'

Seat of power: Bruno said that when Rob Kardashian will improve immensely when he learns to keep his posterior under control

Injured former Hairspray and chat show host Ricki Lake had an inflamed rib nerve, and was told she should rest.

However she battled through the pain, saying 'I know one mistake is enough to send me home.;

Her Little Red Riding hood themed pasa doble was another show-stopping performance by the favourite, earning her straight nines.

Bruno said: 'It was like a blizzard of passion and fire in the frozen woods.

Not-so-rib tickling: Ricki Lake suffered an injury during rehearsals for this week's show

X-ray of hope: Ricki learned she had not broken a bone but also that her inflamed nerve was enough to put most athletes out of competition

'At times you tensed the shoulders, a bit, I think that was because of your injury, but another incredible performance.'

Len added: 'I tell you what, I loved the shapes you made, they are fantastic, and I loved the crisp precise footwork, the elevation and the twist,'

Speaking about her injury Ricki said: 'I'm in this corset, so it feels like it's held together, but you know it's bruised. But everyone has injuries at this stage.'

Water performance by Lake: Ricki still performed so well that she ended up topping the leaderboard and winning approval from the judges

American soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo did well with a werewolf styled samba, despite her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy sitting out practice for the week with a sore foot.

She did well, earning straight 8s, and they got praise from Len Goodman despite his spat with Chmerkovskiy last week.

He said: 'The samba can be the celebrities graveyard because it is such a demanding dance, but you coped well with such a difficult dance.'

Not so Hopeless: She showed she still has plenty of potential after Maks managed to coach the best Solo performance so far

Typically flamboyant Bruno added: 'You were running away from the big bad wolf and dancing like your life depended on it.'

There was also a group dance, which counted for half the competitors score, and both sides had different fortunes.

Team Tango, which featured David Arquette, J.R. Martinez and Nancy Grace, got lukewarm reviews for their straitjacket styled routine from the judges scoring 8, 7, 8 for a total of 23.

Playing it strait: Unfortunately for Team Tango their dance was more of a Halloween horror story than they hoped for

Judgement day: Len Goodman was not impressed and branded the individual performances a disaster

Despite praising their group parts, Len said: 'Each of the individual performances were a disaster.'

Meanwhile Team Paso Doble, Ricki Lake, Hope Solo and Rob Kardashian did better.

The judges raved about the final result, particularly citing Rob's ability to keep up with the male pro dancers, and they scored: 9, 8, 9 for a total of 26.

Paso-ing muster: Team Paso Doble's gothic themed routine was far better received by the judges

Fancy: There was plenty of complicated footwork involved in their routine

Len said: 'I thought your individual parts were fantastic. Rob, well done, you kept up with these two guys. Good job.'

Bruno added: 'Powerful, moving, dramatic, building to a fantastic ending.

'It's fabulous to see everyone going for it. Well done.'
