Jason Gardiner shows off results of second hair transplant after undergoing procedure LIVE on the internet

He previously revealed he was so desperate for thick hair that he paid £30,000 for a hair transplant.

So, after Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner was spotted earlier this year sporting the beginnings of what appeared to be a reappearing bald patch, he decided to undergo a second procedure in a bid to obtain his dream locks.

After spending a further £6,000 on a top-up Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) procedure, which was broadcasted live on the internet, Jason, 39, tweeted fans a picture of his new look.

He wrote on his Twitter page: 'Day 1 post op & head is feeling tight with slight dull throbbing pain.

'You would never know I’ve had it done. No swelling or bruising at all. Photo taken just now in my hotel room in LA after my 2nd FUT procedure!'

Describing the pain involved in the operation, Jason said: 'Anaesthetic injections = 5. Once they kick in =0. Post op = a tender 4. It’s really nothing painful to endure… a sprained ankle = 8.'

In a bid to raise awareness of hair transplants and advanced baldness, Jason's second procedure was broadcast live on an internet stream as part of Spencer Kobren's hair loss show The Bald Truth.

Oversharing? Jason broadcast his second transplant live on an internet stream

Confident: The 39-year-old spoke about the reasons for undergoing a transplant

Asked why he had decided to have a transplant in the first place, Jason said on the internet stream: 'Everybody, from family to my closest friends, said that I looked great without hair.

'But this procedure that I'm having and the process that I'm going through here with this hair transplant is not for anybody else, it is purely and simply because of the way I feel about myself.'

Jason also admitted it can be difficult to accept that the results from such a procedure take time to see.

He explained: 'This is a process that requires patience. You don't see the yield until 10 months to a year after the procedure because the follicles go through a resting period while they produce new hair.

Why so shy? Dancing On Ice judge Jason attempted to hide as he stepped out in London in July

Disappearing: After his £30,000 hair transplant, Jason appeared to have a bald patch back in July

'So initially, my clsoest friends were like, 'Oh my god, what have you done to yourself?' And, to a lesser extent, so was I, because you go in with this pre-conceived notion that the hair is going to start growing through fairly rapidly but the reality is quite the opposite.

'If you are going to do this, you have to be patient, and you have to realise that it's going to take about a year before you see exactly what that procedure has done for you.

'But a year down the track, I can't tell you how impressed everyone is, including myself, at this procedure.'

Before and after: Jason says he felt so insecure about his baldness that he was forced to take extreme measures

New look: Jason appeared on This Morning earlier this year to talk about the first transplant

Jason was spotted in July trying to hide his bald patch from photographers as he went for lunch in London.

However, it is not uncommon for hair transplant patients to suffer slight hair loss following the procedure.

Dr Craig Ziering, who performed both Jason's transplants, explained: 'Shortly after the procedure, the transplanted hair shafts will fall out. The new follicles remain under the surface in a resting phase for approximately 3 to 4 months. Then the hair begins to grow at its normal rate of a quarter  to a half of an inch per month.

'As a result, the hair becomes increasingly visible from 5 months to 10 months, and the appearance will continue to improve for up to 12 to 15 months. This hair will grow for a lifetime.'
