I’m am so excited. When they told me I was like: ‘Oh my God! Are you sure?'

OUTRAGEOUS Brian Dowling was yesterday unveiled as the new Big Brother host and cheekily said: “I will tell them: ‘BB house. This is Brian. Please swear.”

The camp Irishman, who shot to fame when he won BB in 2001, also told fans of the top reality show: “I’m not Davina. I’ll be me.”

Brian will take over the most coveted role in TV at the helm of the Channel 5 series, which has already got fans champing at the bit with excitement.

The show kicks off next month with a celeb-packed version, directly followed by the typical crazy and entertaining main show featuring members of the public.

Brian, 33, has been lined up to present the live shows on Channel 5, as well as interviewing the evictees.

The ex-air steward, who also won Ultimate Big Brother last year, can hardly believe his luck,

He said: “I’m am so excited. When they told me I was like: ‘Oh my God! Are you sure?’

“I’m just so chuffed. It was about two months of talks and going back and forth, they told me about two weeks ago and I had to keep it a secret.

“But that was a good chance for me to let it sink in.”

After Brian won BB2, he forged a career in presenting with jobs on shows including SM:TV Live and The Salon.

And he said his two stints in the house made him the perfect man for the job.

He added: “I hope my experience in the show will give me an advantage.

“I am just so excited about this opportunity to host one of the most talked-about shows on TV.

“I’m such a huge fan and I don’t think you can get much better than presenting it.

“I’m going to be able to meet and interview all the contestants and see how it all works behind the scenes.

“I can’t wait to see how it works in the Diary Room.”

Telly legend Davina McCall, 43, presented the show for 10 years but Brian said he was not too worried about being compared to her.

He said: “I’m a man, for one!

“And with it now being on a different channel and at a different time of year, I’m hoping I won’t be compared to her too much.

“I’m not Davina McCall, I’m me, but I’m a huge fan of her and she’s been so supportive. I’m not claiming to be her and I’m hoping my different experiences of being in the house will show that.

“I might call her and ask her for some tips though. She’s so impartial, supportive and loves everyone.

“She can host a massive live show and keep it together which I hope I can do too.

“Not everyone will like it and I will get criticised but I can’t think about the negativity at the moment.”

One thing Brian has started thinking about is what his new catchphrase for the show will be.

He joked: “Maybe I could say something like: ‘BB house, this is Brian. Please swear!’

“Maybe I should ask fans to send in ideas instead.”

With the announcement also came news that Emma Willis, 35, will present the new BB spin-off show, Big Brother’s Bit On The Side.

Brian added: “I’m really excited Emma’s on board.

“She’s such a gifted TV presenter.

“I’m hoping we’ll be a dream team together!”

As well as presenting the series that will grip the nation, Brian said he could not wait to find out who the contestants were.

He said: “We’ve got the celeb show first and I’m super-excited and nervous about meeting the famous people.

“I haven’t been told who they are yet but with the rumours that have been flying around it’s going to be very exciting.

“I think after the celeb bit I’ll feel more relaxed and be in a stride, a lot more confident and comfortable.

“It’s going to be about having fun this series and I can’t wait.”

Channel 5’s new-look BB will kick off with its celebrity version next month, followed by the public series in September.
