Apprentice contestant Tom Pellereau acrimoniously left his previous job at a City investment firm following a bitter row over £33,000 of unpaid cash, the Daily Mail has learned.

The 31-year-old left his role as an investment adviser for Kratos Enterprise - based in Victoria, central London - at the beginning of last year.

According to one source, he was fired from the company.

Row: A source claims Apprentice contestant Tom Pellereau acrimoniously left his previous job at a City investment firm following a bitter row over £33,000 of unpaid cash

However, last night a source close to Pellereau insisted the firm sent him a letter ‘formally dismissing him’ - but only after he had already quit.

He claimed Pellereau chose to leave the firm because they owed his company a total of £33,000 - £30,000 in fees and £3,000 in expenses - which had built up over just a four-month period, though Kratos dispute any liability.

The source claims he considered taking legal action against Kratos to try and reclaim the sum, before deciding against it.

The source said: ‘Tom is adamant he was the victim in all this. He says he left the firm with them owing more than £30,000.

‘He thought about going to court to get it back but decided it wasn’t worth it in the end.’

Friends of Pellereau claim it would have been particularly difficult to seek legal redress because Kratos Enterprises are an off-shore fund incorporated in the British Virgin Islands.

Under scrutiny: This year's group of Apprentice contestants

Last night, a friend of Pellereau told the Mail: ‘It was a very stressful and frustrating period for Tom.’

Kratos initially declined to comment on Pellereau’s exit from the firm and the £33,000, insisting they ‘won’t comment on internal HR matters’.

However, a spokesman added: ‘We don’t accept he [Pellereau] has any valid claim against us.’

The spokesman also noted how Pellereau had not pursued any ‘legal channels open to him,’ following his exit from the firm.

Pellereau was listed in documents for the firm as Director Of Strategy and iPEM, ‘specialising in the systematic creation and commercialisation of Intellectual Property'.

Pellereau - who graduated with a 1st in Mechanical Engineering from Bath University before working for the Ministry of Defence - is amongst the favourites for the current series of The Apprentice.

In the show, his profession is listed as an inventor, with Pellereau citing Thomas Edison as an icon.

He describes himself as ‘creative, adventurous, loyal and enthusiastic’ and is said to have invented both ‘revolutionary’ nail files and some baby-feeding products.

The latest series of The Apprentice is proving to be one of the most successful ever, with more than eight million people watching the opening episode last week.

Third contestant Gavin Winstanley was fired at the end of last night’s episode. The groups - which had been previously split into men versus women - were mixed up this week.

The contestants’ task was to source ten products for the newly refurbished Savoy Hotel in central London, in just nine hours.

However, for the third time in a row it still resulted in a man being axed from the show.
