'The male judges will not be as good looking as me': Simon Cowell on his new American X Factor team

Simon Cowell has been scouting for the perfect judges to join him on his highly anticipated American version of The X Factor.

And today he revealed his most important considerations for potential candidates - female applicants had to be 'cute' while the males must be less attractive than him.

Cowell, who was on The Today Show to talk about his highly-anticipated new show, was guarded about whom the judges will be.

Mr Modesty: Simon Cowell, right, appeared on the Today Show with Matt Lauer this morning

Cheryl Cole, who appears in the British version of the show, is tipped as a front-runner although there is yet to be official conformation on her position.

Other stars who have been touted to join the U.S. panel include Nicole Scherzinger and Katy Perry, however, there has been less speculation regarding male judges.

When asked by presenter Matt Lauer about the new line up, he said: 'They will be cute. But the male judges will not be as good looking as me.'

Later in the interview multi-millionaire Cowell defended the promotion of child stars on X Factor.

A possibility: Cheryl Cole is tipped as the forerunner for the gig

'In the final you could have a 14-year-old verses a 40-year-old,' said Cowell.

When asked if the exposure could become too much for child performers he said:
'Historically man, you know, I have seen a lot of these kiddy singers who looked like they had been pushed into it by their awful stage mums. They all sang Good Ship Lollipop and it was excruciating. No one wants to sit through that,' he scoffed.

The 51-year-old continued to say that he was seeing a 'new wave' of child stars that are similar to Will Smith's daughter, Willow Smith.

'I thought long and hard about the cut off age and I wanted to give these kids a chance but I'm going to take it case by case,' he said.

The presenter and music executive broke America in 2002 with American Idol where he gained a reputation as: 'The man America loves to hate,' said the host Lauer, 53.

Cowell also revealed he won't be a guest at the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

He said: 'I haven't been invited.'

Asked if he thinks he will get an invite in the future he said: 'No. But I'll probably be allowed to wave in the street.'
