X Factor: Moaning stars don't know they're born

X Factor favourite Matt Cardle seems to think that he is fighting in the trenches rather than taking part in a talent show.

“I lost Aiden and then lost Paije,” breathes Matt, peering nervously out from under his tin hat. “I don’t feel safe.”

It’s hell out there, Sarge. I don’t think I can stand it any more. The karaoke singers are dropping like flies. Katie just cracked. But then Katie has always just cracked. Wagner might launch an all out attack at any moment.

Matt, along with many other X Factor hopefuls, seems to be incredibly shocked when someone gets slung off the show. But isn’t that what is supposed to happen? People keep getting chucked out until eventually we have a winner.

It’s not the Somme, Matt. You didn’t actually “lose” Aiden and Paije. They got voted out because the public finally got cheesed off with their rotten warbling.

Don’t feel sorry for Aiden and Paije. We will give them a decent burial.

I think they both made a little – almost nothing, in fact – go a very long way. I reckon they both got the kind of mass exposure that their teeny-weeny gifts did not truly deserve.

Pull yourself together, Private Cardle! For the life of me, I can’t understand why so many of them complain so much.

The X Factor is the best thing that ever happened to these people. Already two acts – Rebecca Ferguson and One Direction – have careers that are assured.

Despite all the tears and tantrums and railing at the injustice of it all, The X Factor “stars” have a far easier ride compared to the bands and singers who try to make it without prime time television to give them a massive leg up.

It’s not like fighting in the trenches, Matt. It’s not even as brutal as the real music business.

Aiden and Paije would be treated a lot more harshly if they tried hawking their dreary homemade demos around the A&R departments of the record companies. They would be laughed out of the door. Now that would be real carnage. You X Factor stars don’t known you’re born!

So lighten up, Matt. Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag and give us that twinkly, beardy smile that all the ladies love. It’s only a talent show. Nobody is going to die – although Wagner will probably murder a few more songs before the autotuners finally fall silent.

And as they said about the First World War – it will all be over by Christmas.
