Skating With The Stars viewers struggle to understand Vernon Kay's Mancunian accent as he tries to crack America

When it was announced Vernon Kay would be presenting Skating With The Stars in America, many wondered how US viewers would cope with understanding his broad Mancunian accent.

And while the 36-year-old presenter did his very best while hosting the programme, even attempting to tone down his dulcet Bolton tones, thousands of viewers took to internet forums complaining they were struggling to follow what he was saying.

One viewer even confused Kay's accent for a Scottish one, writing on Twitter: 'I've decided my favorite thing about #SWTS is the Scottish accent of show host Vernon Kay.'

Struggling: Many viewers took to the internet to complain about Vernon Kay's accent as he presented Skating With The Stars

Another wrote: 'Am about to watch SWTS live in America! Vernon Kay's accent is HILARIOUS! In the 45 second trailer he visited about 5 different places with his voice!!!'

While a fellow viewer added: 'Watching Skating With the Stars with wife...Vernon Kay's Northern accent is grating.'

A further fan wrote: 'It's Vernon Kay hosting. He is one of us (a Brit) and he IS very annoying. Especially with his regional accent!'

Scottish? Viewers struggled to understand the presenter's broad Mancunian accent

Big deal: Skating With The Stars is the second big US TV show Kay has been signed up for in the past year

While Skating With The Stars is not Kay's US presenting debut, it is one of the biggest programmes he has even fronted.

It was announced earlier this month he would present the ABC programme, shortly after it was revealed he would also be hosting game show Million Dollar Mind Game for the network.

A source said at the time: 'This is a huge boost for Vernon – it’s a really big deal. He is thrilled.'

In great shape: Real Housewives star Bethenny Frankel showed off her amazing figure as she made her debut in Skating With The Stars

It was also claimed that Kay's wife Tess Daly and their two daughters would be moving out to America, with Tess flying back and forth to host Strictly Come Dancing, while Kay films the show.

Skating With The Stars saw celebrities including Real Housewives star Bethenny Frankel, who showed off her stunning figure less than six months after giving birth to son Bryn.

The 40-year-old revealed her tiny waist and slender legs in a clinging red mini dress.

The skaters: Bethenny Frankel, Vince Neil, Rebecca Budig, Jonny Moseley and Sean Young

Other celebrities taking part are Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil, actresses Sean Young and Rebecca Budig, Olympic Skier Jonny Moseley and rapper Brandon Mychal Smith.

The six skating pairs are being judged by choreographer Lauriann Gibson, Olympic ice skater Johnny Weir, and ice skating legend and commentator Dick Button.

'When I think of ice skating I really don't think of me,' Bethenny  told the cameras.

Topping the leaderboard: All My Children's Rebecca Budig and her partner Fred Palascak

Experienced: Rebecca skated as a child, a skill that showed in her routine

And it seemed that she was right, scoring just 29 points - leaving her second from bottom on the leaderboard.

Topping the leaderboard was All My Children's Rebecca Budig and her partner Fred Palascak.

The soap star, 37, admitted she had enjoyed skating as a child, and it showed.

With her experience she was labelled a 'real skater' and a ballerina' by the judges, who awarded her 45 out of 60.

Full of confidence: Brandon Mychal Smith took to skating like a natural

Disney star Brandon Mychal Smith, 21, was first to take to the ice. And with 36 points, and a lot of personality, it seemed he was happy with his performance.

Next up was the least experienced of the skaters - Days Of Our Lives star Sean Young, partnered by skater Denis Petukhov.

Sean was seen falling during rehearsals, and struggling to build her confidence.

But her worries were misguided, as she impressed the judges and scored 34 points.

Building her confidence: Despite her worries in training, Sean Young kept upright

Much improved: Sean has learnt to put her trust in her partner

Following her onto the ice was Jonny Moseley and his partner Brooke Castile.

As an Olympic gold medallist skier he had a natural advantage, but still struggled to adapt to the ice.

Motley Crue rocker Vince Neil showed a previously unseen side when he revealed he won an ice skating competition as a child.

But it had been many years since he last took to the ice, and Neil struggled in training, repeatedly hitting the deck.

He managed to stay on his feet in his performance - but only managed to come last in the judges' grades, with just 28 out of 60.
