Dancing With The Stars final: Bristol Palin recreates THAT monkey jive... as Jennifer Grey wins perfect marks

With mysterious packages sparking FBI investigations and debate over political influence, the off screen drama threatened to overshadow tonight's Dancing With The Stars finale.

But with Jennifer Grey scoring perfect marks, and all three finalists recreating their worse dances of the season, it turned out to be a gripping finale.

Disney star Kyle Massey, reality star Bristol Palin and actress Jennifer had to perform a Redemption Dance - the dance the judges thought was their worse of the season.

It's back! For the final Bristol Palin, seen with dance partner Mark Ballas, recreated her failed monkey dance

Got the moves: This time there were no slip ups as Bristol performed her jive

And her controversial place in the final ensured all eyes were on Bristol as the show started.

'There's lot of haters out there just waiting for me to fail. That just gives me more motivation to prove them wrong,' she said.

For Bristol the judges chose the jive, which she performed first time round wearing a monkey suit.

For Kyle it was the fox trot, and for Jennifer the paso doble, which was her lowest scoring mark of the season.

The finalists: Jennifer Grey, Bristol and Kyle Massey are all hoping to win the show

This time Bristol and partner Mark Ballas danced to Move (You're Stepping On My Heart) from Dreamgirls.

With her mother Sarah Palin watching from the front row, she performed the preppy dance in time and won three nines - giving her 27.

Bruno Tonioli told her: 'You had a good time, you didn't care and we all enjoyed it.'

Carrie Ann Inaba added: 'You never cease to amaze me.'

'Not quite': Bristol was told her Chicago inspired freestyle routine wasn't final night standard

Come a long way: The single mother has seen a vast improvement since joining the show

While head judge Len Goodman told her it was a 'vast improvement.'

But her second dance didn't go so well, with Bristol's Chicago themed freestyle failing to impress.

A disappointed Bruno told her it was 'not quite at the level' expected of a final night performance. She took home 25 points.

For his Redemption Dance Kyle, dancing with partner Lacey Schwimmer, won 27 out of 30.

Fingers crossed: Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer hope for votes

Redemption! The pair reworked their fox trot to a more traditional number, dancing to 'I'm Feelin' Good'

The judges unanimously agrees it was a huge improvement, with Len telling the teen: 'So much better than that first one... You've gone from Messy Massey to Marvellous Massey'.

Bruno labelled the dance 'slick, sharp and slinky.'

But Carrie Ann had some reservations, telling him: 'It was great, but I'm looking forward to the freestyle'.

Got the moves: For his second dance the 19-year-old performed an impressive hip-hop style freestyle, earning 29 points

The Fresh Prince: Kyle won himself a new nickname

For his second dance the 19-year-old performed an impressive hip-hop style freestyle, earning 29 points.

It also won him a new nickname, with Carrie Ann labelling him 'the Fresh Prince of Dancing With The Stars'.

'This was great fun, just great,' said Len.

But putting both Bristol and Kyle in the shade was Dirty Dancing's Jennifer.

We did it! Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough celebrate another successful dance

Going for it: Jennifer put on a faultless performance

Despite battling health troubles throughout her time on the show, the 50-year-old won the judges praise with a beautiful dance.

'This is the meaning of redemption', Carrie Ann told her.

And she continued to thrill with her second dance.

With partner Derek Hough she performed a freestyle that had Bruno raving: 'two dances at the opposite end of the spectrum and both equally brilliant!'

And with another 30 points she topped the leaderboard.

*The winner will be announced on Tuesday night's result show
