'Is it like lap dancing?' asks nervous Sarah Palin after Bristol warns her about raunchy Dancing With The Stars routine

  • New twist as 'instant dance' round is introduced

She's shocked her mother on more than one occasion.

But this time Bristol Palin gave the former Alaskan governor plenty of warning ahead of her latest 'scandalous' act.

The Dancing With The Stars competitor was filmed bracing her mother for a racy routine as she rehearsed for tonight's performance.

The 20-year-old mother of one blushed as her parents sat on the sidelines at a dance studio on a hometown visit with professional partner Mark Ballas.

Before shaking her derrière and sashaying around a chair, Bristol advised: 'The beginning is kind of scandalous'.

Up close and personal:Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas performed a tango she described as 'scandalous' on Dancing With The Stars tonight

Head over heels: Bristol was literally swept off her feet by her dance partner and earned 8-8-8

Nervous: Sarah Palin and her husband Todd watched her daughter rehearse the racy routine

A visibly nervous Sarah asked: 'Is it like lap-dancing scandalous?'

But once Bristol got going, her mother urged her to push the boundaries even further.

'Just dominate, just take over,' Sarah suggested. 'That's really good.'

When it came time for the live tango, Bristol generally impressed the judges too.

Carrie Ann Inaba gushed: 'I thought that was the most intensity we’ve ever seen. I was truly, truly impressed.'

But she added: 'I want to see more energy in your legs. Sometimes your flicks were lacklustre.'

Fancy footwork: The pair performed a samba in the 'instant dance' round, earning 7-8-8

Len Goodman said: 'I thought the lifts were good, clean, but lacked a bit of intensity.'

Bruno disagreed, adding: 'I thought you were mean and moody. You’ve done well up until now.

He said he wanted to see more out of her in the second performance, saying: 'When you come out again - fire!'

The couple scored a total of 24/30 for their first routine.

Nobody puts Baby in a corner! Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough scored 9-9-9 for their quick-step

Perfect: Jennifer earned three 10s for her rumba to Waiting for a Girl Like You by Foreigner

Tonight the final five contestants performed a classic ballroom routine, as well as an 'instant dance.'

For the 'instant dance' - a new element to the show - the couples had prepared a dance style, but were not told what their song would be until the live show had started.

Bristol was given Mas Que Nada, featuring the Black Eyed Peas, for her second song and managed a score of 23/30.

But night really belong to Jennifer Grey, who delivered dazzling performances despite a painful battle with tendonitis in her left knee.

The Dirty Dancing star, who is partnered with Derek Hough, won rave reviews for her quick step.

All white on the night: Brandy and parter Maksim Chmerkovskiy's waltz earned 9-10-10

Shaking it: Brandy's cha-cha to Teenage Dream by Katy Perry received 9-9-10

Bruno said: 'It was like watching a vintage Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire quick-step. You're capable of brilliance. Forget your troubles, come on get happy!'

Carrie Ann branded it 'amazing' while Len said it was 'great'.

And her second performance, a rumba to Waiting for a Girl Like You  by Foreigner, even managed to earn her a perfect score - 30/30.

Bruno called it 'flawless', while Carrie Ann added: 'You captured the moment. There is nothing more beautiful for me than watching someone reclaiming their power.'

Len said: 'What I love about dancing is the variations. That's what makes great dancing, and that's what we've just seen.'

Charming: Disney's Kyle Massey and partner Lacey Schwimmer were given 9-9-9 for their Viennese waltz

Jive talkin': Kyle performed to Good Golly Miss Molly by Little Richard and was given 10-9-10

Disney's Kyle Massey and partner Lacey Schwimmer surprised everyone with his Viennese waltz, scoring an impressive 27.

'Last week I saw a little bud,' Len said. This week a gorgeous orchid.'

Added Bruno: 'We were all totally charmed by you.

Carrie Ann said: 'My crush on Kyle is back! The elegance was amazing. It was like you were dancing on clouds. It was like a fairytale coming to life.'

Their 'instant dance' jive to 'Good Golly Miss Molly" by Little Richard was equally well-received, earning 29/30.

'You worked it as if you'd been rehearsing for moths,' said Bruno.

Carrie Ann said: 'That was an instant dance? It's like that song was made for you.'

Brandy and parter Maksim Chmerkovskiy's waltz was a hit with the judges, who awarded them 29/30.

'You were totally immersed into the character,' Bruno said. 'It was like a symphony, it was like a poem.'

Graceful: Kurt Warner earned 24/30 for his first watlz, and the same score for his 'instant dance' cha-cha to Hella Good by No Doubt

Carrie Ann was 'spell-bound' while Len was 'overwhelmed' by the performance.

Brandy then performed her 'instant dance' cha-cha to Teenage Dream by Katy Perry and earned 28/30.

But Carrie Ann was disappointed, saying: ;Well, the thing of this instant dance is how quickly you get into the dance and how quickly you make it yours.

'And I’m kind of shocked you took four beats to begin your choreography when musicality should come so easy for you.'

An angry Maksim was instantly defensive, before eventually conceding: 'It was my fault.'

Kurt Warner, who is partnered with Anna Trebunskaya, won over Len with his waltz.

The judge said: 'There's something nice about seeing a big guy come out and being graceful. The whole feeling of the dance was beautiful.'

Bruno added: 'Obviously there are people that are better than you but you've come a long way.'

Kurt earned 24/30 for his first performance, and the same score for his 'instant dance' cha-cha to Hella Good by No Doubt.
