Ronan flops on X Factor

Published: Today

IT'S not the best of weeks for RONAN KEATING. The BOYZONE frontman has been spending time Down Under to star in Australian X Factor but Monday's first episode flopped.

Meanwhile, his wife YVONNE has made it clear that they aren't back together.

Their marriage has been on the rocks since it was revealed in May that he had been cheating on her with a dancer.

Australian X Factor - probably the most hyped show in the history of Aussie broadcasting - debuted this week with Ronan as a judge but only got one million viewers.

A TV insider told me: "Ronan was meant to be the star attraction on this show along with NATALIE IMBRUGLIA but the public just have not responded.

"It has cost the network £14million but it's just not working." Mum-of-three Yvonne has visited Ronan in Australia but they deny a reconciliation.

They put out this statement: "The situation remains the same and the couple continue to work together for their children."

At least things can only improve from here. Hopefully the Aussies will discover what we all love about The X Factor.

I started watching parts of it this week. They are airing the edited general auditons Mon - Thurs this week before they have the final group for bootcamp. The other 2 judges are Aussies. One is Kyle Sandilands, a morning radio host who also judged on AGT. The other is the winner of the first series of Australian Idol, Guy Sebastian.

Ronan was OK. It looks too much like Australia's Got Talent with 4 judges instead of 3. AGT had Brian McFadden as one of the judges.

I think your Sun newspaper has got to get the viewing numbers into perspective - we don't have a big population as you do in Britain. 21 million is the size of our population so almost 1/20 watched it. I think more people will watch it when it gets closer to the pointy end of the competition.

They had a very brave contestant on last night. He had been a singer, but he developed cancer in his tongue, and had half his tongue removed to remove the cancer. His doctors told him he would never sing again, but he proved them wrong last night.

It would have clashed with Masterchef. This was the most watched TV show in Australia this year - it was on for almost 3 months 6 nights a week.

Is that why we've got him? . Well Delta Goodrem wants him.

I think you watched the first series filmed in 2009. When that aired last year, it rated highly because Australia had never had a show like that before. The standard of cooking was low compared to the 2nd series in 2010. The food being prepared in series 2 early on was better than the food cooked towards the end of series 1. Its so popular, they have filmed a Junior Masterchef which goes to air Monday week. The contestants are aged between 8 - 12 yrs. From the promos, the standard of cooking is almost as high as the adult version. In one promo, the judge says to this boy "I can't believe you tempered your own chocolate". They announced today a live audience interactive Masterchef for December.
