The wonderful ken Stott was forced to take drastic action with a group of rowdy teenagers, I must say I fully support his actions

Actor Ken Stott halted a West End performance of his latest play, A View From The Bridge, to demand that a group of rowdy schoolchildren be removed from the audience.
Midway through the first half of the Arthur Miller drama, Stott switched from his stage American accent tr his native Scottish tones and threatened to abandon the stage unless the teenagers left the auditorium.
Other audience members backed him up and chanted: "Out, out, out" during a 15-minute stand-off until the guilty party was forced to leave in the company of their teacher. The atmosphere at the Duke of York's theatre was said to be tense. One witness wrote on the What's On Stage website: "Quite dramatic and I was definitely on Stott's side, but there was a scary bit of mob mentality going on in the audience."

Another said: "From where I was sitting, I wasn't too aware of them - I definitely did hear them giggling at a few inappropriate moments though. Since they were in the front row, I'm sure they must have been really irritating to the cast. His performance is so incredible and must require such a level of concentration that it is totally fair of him not to tolerate distractions like that.

"Their teacher was arguing that they hadn't done anything, and the ushers were trying their best to sort things out, and people in the audience were indeed getting quite rowdy and rebellious. It was all a bit uncomfortable. There were so many schoolchildren there and they were pretty silent after that little incident."
Stott, an Edinburgh-born actor whose television roles include the ITV detective drama Rebus, plays an Italian-American longshoreman in the play.

Earlier this month, he complained about teenagers in the audience. Writing about A View From The Bridge, he said: "There is a drive to get young people into the theatres, but we shouldn't applaud children simply for arriving... I'm really surprised that 15/16-year-olds come to see this play. They're too young, especially when they come with a lot of chums. They end up talking to one another and not concentrating because the play is far too mature for them.
"Your average teenager is not going to respond well to the piece. They should be 17 or 18 because of the content. We have children coming to see the show and it's not fun. If they're watching something they don't really understand, it has an adverse affect [sic] on them and an adverse effect on the performers. They tend to come in large groups and we actors do not welcome large groups."

LOVE this story. I wish Ken Stott would do another series of Messiah, that was fantastic.
